**Position Summary**:
The Communications Officer plays a crucial role in enhancing Loyalist College's visibility and community engagement through strategic media relations and innovative social media strategies. This role demands a highly skilled communicator capable of managing diverse and dynamic communication channels, crafting compelling narratives, and engaging in high-impact storytelling that resonates with both local and global audiences.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- **Media Relations**: Draft press releases and media advisories, coordinate their distribution to relevant media outlets, and assist in maintaining robust media relationships through systematic tracking and organizing of media interactions.
- ** Social Media**: Implement the established social media strategies by creating, scheduling, and posting engaging content across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Monitor social media channels for engagement opportunities, respond to comments and messages, and maintain active community interaction.
- ** Storytelling**: Write detailed stories, articles, and updates about the college’s achievements and initiatives for various communication mediums, ensuring all narratives are clear and effectively targeted to specific audiences.
- ** Internal Communications**: Manage the creation and dissemination of internal communications, including newsletters and updates on the college's portal and other platforms, to ensure consistent and clear messaging within the college community.
**Qualifications**:
- A minimum of a three-year diploma or degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of professional experience focused primarily on social media and media relations, preferably in a postsecondary education or public sector setting.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement comprehensive communication plans.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
- Strong understanding of Canadian Press (CP) Style and other writing best practices.
- Excellent communication skills to best support a diverse range of customers and needs; a student-focused individual who is understanding, compassionate, and inclusive.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with mínimal supervision.
- Strong organizational abilities with proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously without compromising quality or timelines.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends, and travel to other Loyalist College locations as required
