**Job Summary**:
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
**Leadership**
- Leads employees in a manner that is inclusive, committed to developing staff, and building a positive culture where individuals feel recognized and valued.
- Provides supervision, support, and performance management to a team of Public Health Inspectors on the Food Safety team, to support the achievement of team goals.
- Guides and supports staff in their assigned roles, review workloads, and provide mentoring and work direction and ensure staff receive adequate orientation and ongoing training to meet the requirements of their position.
- Provides technical support and consults to public health inspector staff in public health programs delivery, implementation and evaluation.
- Provides technical support with issues or upgrades to Hedgehog, consults with staff on Hedgehog inquiries, liaises with IT and Hedgerow as required for issues or upgrades and coordinates divisional updates to Hedgehog.
- Oversees the coordination of inspections in food premises and of special events, and infection prevention and control inspections of licensed child care settings,.
- Participates in the review, development and implementation of policies and procedures related to special events, food safety inspections, complaint response, risk assessments of food premises, child care infection prevention and control inspections, and closure of food premises.
- Supports the preparation of reports for Regional Council and the Ministry of Health.
**Quality Improvement**
- Support quality improvement projects with a focus on data-driven outcomes.
- Analyze service levels and performance indicators to assist the Manager in evaluating program efficacy.
- In collaboration with the Divisional leadership team, assess and monitor risk and develop risk management strategies including developing and maintaining business continuity plans and managing surge capacity.
- Assists in the development and monitoring of business plans and budget.
- Oversees quality assurance regarding team performance, conducts audits and objective setting.
- Conducts audit activities for budget purposes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**External & Internal Communication**
- Represents the division on community, departmental, and corporate committees.
- Collaborate and manage relationships with internal and external community partners, including responding to inquiries from the public, public health units, Regional Departments and Ministries.
- Provide support for external communications including web updates and urgent communications to physicians and other community partners.
**Skills & Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree in public health from a Board of Certification accredited program through the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors along with certification as a Public Health Inspector (Canada).
- Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a public health environment is required, along with previous supervisory experience.
- Knowledge in all public health program areas; specifically, food safety, safe water, tobacco, health hazard, and rabies, along with the Ontario Public Health Standards and relevant acts and regulations such as, Food Premises Regulation, Public Pools Regulation, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Smoke Free Ontario Act is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a necessity to represent the department at public meetings and events.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse community partners and organizations, provide excellent customer service.
- Strong interpersonal skills to mentor, coach and motivate staff.
- Project management and leadership skills are also required to manage special projects, investigations, studies and workflow requirements of various public health programs.
- Equivalent amount of education and experience will be considered.
