Manager, Loan Accounting

Reporting to the Controller, primary responsibilities include managing Fairstone Bank’s loan accounting and insurance accounting processes, as well as establishing and maintaining a strong governance and internal control environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible to maintain the Financial Books of Record for all loan and insurance products and ensuring the sources of entry into the general ledger are fully supported with back up documentation. Ensures all journal entries are reviewed and approved in accordance with the internal control procedures.
- Oversees monthly account reconciliation process for loan and insurance accounts, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled to the General Ledger and/or Source Systems.
- Audit liaison for Loan and Insurance accounting matters and issues with external / internal auditors and manage the outcome.
- Assist with the preparation of loan disclosures in the quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A. Analyze financial results, prepare variance analysis and ensure integrity and accuracy of the IFRS financial statements notes related to Loan accounting.
- Lead the development, implementation, and enhancements of internal controls, and ensure adherence to corporate policies and directives.
- Responsible to review all new accounting standards related to Loan and Insurance to determine if the Bank is impacted. Where impacted, support the controller in creating new policies, procedures, journal entries and controls to ensure the new standards are properly implemented and will pass audit scrutiny.
- Team Management and Leadership
- Leads and develops a team of 3+ Finance professionals.
- Motivates team to exceed expectations through continuous improvement of processes and outputs.
- Demonstrates respect and inclusivity.
- Collaborates with cross-functional business partners to provide solutions.
- Manage and/or participate in ad hoc projects (Product Processor enhancements, process improvement initiatives etc.), as required.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A professional accounting designation preferred.
- Progressive relevant work experience (5 to 10 years) involving product accounting, working with external and internal auditors.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a large financial institution and experience working for a multinational corporation.
- Financial analysis skills and experience.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Strong knowledge of technical accounting (IFRS) and internal control principles.
- Proficient in MS Office, specifically advanced skills in Excel.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with ability to influence and gain support for objectives.
- Self-motivated individual capable of adapting to change, managing multiple tasks and continuously evaluating priorities to lead tasks/projects to completion.
