**Overview**
The Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations. This position is essential for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment within the shelter. The Shelter Support Worker will engage with residents, help them navigate available resources, and promote a sense of community among shelter participants.

**Duties**
- Supervise daily activities within the shelter to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Assist residents with accessing services such as housing, employment, and healthcare.
- Conduct intake assessments and maintain accurate records of resident interactions and progress.
- Facilitate group meetings and activities to encourage resident engagement and community building.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to residents facing challenges.
- Collaborate with other staff members to develop individualized support plans for residents.
- Enforce shelter rules and policies while maintaining a compassionate approach.
- Respond to emergencies or crises in a calm and effective manner.

**Requirements**:

- Previous experience in social services, counseling, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead by example.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.
- Knowledge of community resources available for individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations is an asset.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in their community and supporting those in need.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

- Kentville, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
