**Job Title: Shelter Shift Lead**

**Location**: Kentville, Nova Scotia - OASIS, Tiny Meadows, (and place-based housing program sites when required)
**Reports To**: Shelter Programs Manager
**Job Type**: Full Time (32-40 hours per week)
**Salary Range**:$24-$25 per hour**
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Staffing Support**:
Provide coverage for staff breaks at shelter locations and place-based housing program sites to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
- Respond promptly to short-notice staffing needs, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.

- Coordinate with multiple sites to prioritize and allocate coverage based on operational requirements.
**Shift Supervision**:
- Provide real-time guidance and support to staff, addressing performance concerns and fostering professional development.
- Promote a positive and collaborative team environment to enhance staff morale and effectiveness.
- Conduct regular supervisions with staff members on designated teams with consultation with Shelter Programs Manager.
- Oversee front-line staff during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
**Scheduling Coordination**:
- Build staff schedule in advance in consultation with Shelter Programs Manager
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with staff to ensure shift coverage and operational efficiency.
- Collect and facilitate payroll for all assigned staff members
**Operational Duties**:
- Assist and coach staff with appropriate responses for daily operations, including guest interactions, crisis intervention, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor compliance with organizational standards and report any issues or incidents to the Shelter Programs Manager.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including shift reports and incident logs.
- Oversee the correct use of HIFIS and any reporting requested by management.
- Ensure food safety, stock rotation and shelter supplies, including harm reduction supplies, are maintained.
**Leadership and Communication**:
- Serve as a liaison between front-line staff and management, relaying feedback and recommendations to improve operations.
- Model professional behavior and leadership to support a cohesive and effective team.
**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a shelter, housing program, or similar human services environment. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective staff coordination and documentation.
- Proven problem-solving abilities to address staffing, client, and operational challenges.
- Leadership skills to guide and motivate a team while maintaining professionalism and accountability.
- Familiarity with scheduling tools or software preferred.
**Other Requirements**:
- Availability to work across multiple sites and during varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Ability to pass a police background check.
- Support the staff by assisting with cleaning, cooking and any other general operational duties as required.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
**Physical Demands**:
- Ability to travel between sites, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 10lbs as needed for operational tasks. Cleaning, light yard work and snow removal.
Pay: $24.00-$25.00 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Kentville, NS B4N 2E1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
