**MANAGER, COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS**
**Job description**
Native Women's Association of Canada operates a series of social businesses to generate revenue with the goal of reinvesting in community programming. The manager will have day to day oversight of the businesses and the development of new ones.
**Reports to**: Chief Operating Officer
**Term**: Permanent full time

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**
The Manager, Operations, under the direction of the COO, will be responsible for supervision and management of all commercial activities/businesses, café, stores (2), events, tours, Art Gallery, Library and roof-top area. The Manager, Operations will ensure that the entire facility is always maintained at the highest standards and the cleanliness and other standards are always met.
**SCOPE**
The individual will be responsible for overseeing all operations, including supervision of café, commercial kitchen, boutique stores (including their profitability), events and events spaces and tours. Working with the maintenance department, the Manager, Operations will ensure upkeep of the state-of-the-art office building at Gatineau QC location, café, restaurant, boutique store, meeting rooms, and rooftop garden, their overall maintenance, safety and security, cleanliness, housekeeping and visitor management.
The incumbent will also be responsible for oversight of events at a secondary location in Chelsea, Quebec whenever events are held there.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Manage, lead, direct and assume overall responsibility for all NWAC commercial businesses.
- Responsible for Occupational Health and Safety and fire regulations and other legal requirements, in collaboration with the Occupational Health & Safety Committee.
- Manage and oversee all procurement activities relating their area of responsibilities.
- Ensure that Café and commercial kitchen operate efficiently, and that the expenses and revenues are kept at optimum levels.
- Keep track of the small and large event schedules, and ensure events are well planned and managed.
- Establish and adhere to the financial and service standards for the organization.
- Establish financial and administrative controls with the finance department.
- Liaise with outside vendors and negotiate prices for products and services as required.
- Ensure federal and provincial legislation, work safety requirements, licensing and NWAC policies and procedures are maintained and followed.
- Oversee and ensure client and guest satisfaction.
- Monitor the performance of the facilities through verification and analysis of client satisfaction.
- Address client/guest relations issues in the café and during events and respond to comments and complaints swiftly and appropriately.
- Develop appropriate improvement actions and carry out cost savings measures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of community public affairs involvement. Participate in community and business events and maintain a positive public image for the organization including representation at tourism and business associations, when instructed to do so.
- Perform regular property inspections of commercial units, common areas, washrooms, building exteriors, and landscape. Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations.
- Ensures good safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures.
- Provide general status reports as directed.
- Contact NWAC maintenance services for all repairs.
- Ensure preparation of rooms and set up for meetings, parties, or various other activities and cleans up afterwards.
- Set priorities for preventative maintenance work orders, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work for business equipment. Request custodial and maintenance employees to meet work order demand and regular maintenance requirements.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, manuals and warranties.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Monitoring cost control and promoting sales.
- Responsibilities also include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees for their area of responsibilities; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Monitor kitchen to ensure that the space is always kept clean, food items are not kept open, raw materials and food items are binned and stored with proper date labels.
- Ensures that food items and ingredients are fresh and of superior quality.
- Take steps to avoid overstocking or shortages through constant monitoring of inventory.
- Monitors work quality of staff, and train them as needed. Coordinate with Maintenance & Security in-charge for supervision of all facilities personnel.
