The Payroll Supervisor plays a key responsibility in the smooth operations of the payroll process, ensuring legislative compliance and timely and accurate payroll processing. Strong understanding of cross provincial legislation will be required, with the ability to help provide guidance to employees other internal and external clients.
**Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for the administration and distribution of payroll for all employees and responsible for payroll operations and processing.
- Primary contact for the organization’s payroll operations, payroll accounting, payroll tax filing reporting, escalated payroll issues, internal and external payroll related audits.
- Responsible for reviewing payroll reconciliations to ensure compliance with internal controls, escalade deficiencies as required.
- Coordinates special payments and adjustments and resolves payroll operations issues and manage through process improvements.
- Ensures all areas of payroll are in compliance with company policy and Canada regulations. Retains and researches legal payroll matters and attends sessions to stay up to date on all payroll best practices.
Ensures payroll operations remain up to date on all best practices.
- Collaborates with the RRSP providers and ensures benefit deductions and programs are compliant.
- Partners with business on payroll changes, improvements and daily operations to ensure compliance and customer service.
- Collects and processes information in accordance with set pay cycle schedules, including salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, and employee deductions
- Develops additional key metrics with an eye to continuous improvements.
- Ensures continuous communication between payroll and other service teams
- Communicates effectively in a clear and concise manner with employees to set appropriate expectations and timelines
- Enforces internal controls and strict confidentiality around payroll functions
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- 5 years or more performing the complete payroll cycle, payroll tax filing (multiprovince).
- Fluent in French and English (verbal and written).
- Strong knowledge of payroll data processing by use of in-house ERP, HCMs, etc.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to be confidential and above all give the best customer service.
- Must be able to multi-task and work independently.
- Accounting procedures and methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Ability to interface with many international sites to establish strong working relationships and cooperation
- Ability to evaluate, analyze, prioritize work under tight timelines, and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion
