Program Coordinator

CORE FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Head of Learning & Engagement, the Program Coordinator of Indigenous Programs develops and delivers programs that focus on Indigenous art and culture, and projects for critical engagement to promote diverse voices and support work toward truth, reconciliation and self-determination. This position coordinates programs developed through partnerships that engage Indigenous and other cultural communities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and delivers programs with a focus on Indigenous art, knowledge and culture.
2. Advances Indigenous educational and programmatic content in museum activities through cross
- departmental collaboration.
3. Develops and implements a range of art, education and wellness programs with a focus on community
engagement and co-produced partnership activities onsite, offsite and online.
4. Establishes, maintains and promotes community-based partnerships. Builds learning and partnership
opportunities within Indigenous and other communities. Facilitates conversations with community groups
and leaders in support of Indigenous art and culture.
5. Identifies barriers to museum visitation and program participation and collaborates to improve access for
Indigenous people.
6. Supervises assigned staff, assists with hiring, establishes work assignments and assesses staffing needs.
Plans and approves staff development and assists with performance management.
7. Assists with developing and monitoring budget and work plans.
8. Develops and delivers program evaluation. Maintains evaluation statistics and prepares reports.
9. Assists with identifying target markets, developing marketing strategies, and the. preparation of marketing
support materials.

11. Maintains ongoing familiarity with best practices and innovation in decolonial museum work and museum
programming.
12. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Saskatchewan
Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety
Regulations and Remai Modern’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental
procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which impact employee and public health and safety.
13. Participates in committee of project work as required.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in a closely related field.
- Four years of related experience developing and implementing art, education and/or wellness programs
with a focus on Indigenous community, art, knowledge and culture.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous peoples of North America.
- Possession of a valid first aid/CPR certificate, training provided upon hire.
- Thorough knowledge of Indigenous art, culture, histories, traditions, knowledge systems, and contemporary
issues.
- Thorough knowledge of art history, art education, studio art and culturally appropriate approaches to
educating and programming with Indigenous content.
- Knowledge of current practices in decolonial museum work.
- Demonstrated ability to express challenging ideas and concepts effectively orally and in writing. Ability to
prepare and present specialized reports and educational materials.
- Demonstrated creative and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical
deadlines, follow up on assignments and work effectively on several projects concurrently with mínimal
supervision.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and engage in dialogue with people of varying
viewpoints.
- Responsive to diverse communities, including the ability to identify and understand intersecting issues
related to age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, immigration status,
religion, and Indigenous heritage.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
