**Purpose**

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Wholesale Operations (GWO) risk and control strategy through driving and implementation of enterprise policies, standards, methodology and control initiatives for proactive operational risk management in GWO. The Operational Risk function forms part of the Operations Control Utility with a core focus of continuously strengthening GWO risk culture and internal controls by reviewing and enhancing operating procedures and practices. GWO is an essential part of the Global Banking Market (GBM) infrastructure that enables GBM and other business partners to meet their strategic objectives by designing and executing operational processes that compliment business needs, manage risk, and comply with regulatory obligations throughout the client and trade lifecycles. GWO has leveraged the global utility model to standardize and aggregate functions to be more efficient and consistent in how we operate in Toronto, New York, London and major countries in APAC. **Accountabilities**
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Champions a high perform environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
- Lead and drive a risk focused culture and deepen internal client relationship by leveraging on broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Independently drive initiatives with internal GWO stakeholders to mitigate risks through assessment of control design and operating effectiveness with mínimal guidance from line manager.
- Assist with the compilation, analysis and appropriateness of GWO KPI/KRI to assess the risk profile and control environment. Identify root causes and drivers to the KPI/KRI and contribute through providing an opinion and risk perspective across utilities and regions.
- Keep track and assess audit inspection and appropriateness of risk findings/recommendations, including review of management action plan from issue/action owners to meet the closure requirement and deadline timely.
- Support the build-out of the Operational Risk Function and the target operating model in GWO to proactively own and manage operational risk.
- Standardize and synchronize risk reporting and risk profiling across utilities and regions.
- Drive consistency in Operational Risk Event review and challenge and Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process.
- Centralise global audits, review of audit mgmt. action points and tracking of audit points closure.
- Establish a Lesson Learned guidance and provide thematic analysis through established risk tools in Scotiabank.
- Raise risk awareness through training of risk event and issue standards, root cause analysis approach, risk event writeup and escalation standards.
