**Job Description**:
Reporting to the AVP, Risk & Controls, this is a critical role leading 3 direct reports within a small, closely connected team supporting Individual Customer and Advisory Network business units at Canada Life. The Individual Customer (IC) business unit is responsible for delivering market-leading insurance and wealth management solutions to customers, and the Advisory Network (AN) business area is an advisor centric platform helping advisors build better businesses to service Canadians.
With a strong understanding of the fundamentals of a strong risk and control environment and knowledge of the business organization, the incumbent will work with business leaders to
to effectively mitigate risk within IC and AN. The incumbent will provide expertise on control environment enhancements, manage and monitor the effectiveness of controls, and provide guidance on the identification and implementation of action plans to address audit and review findings. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with our business support teams, oversight partners and Internal Audit, and will present to senior leadership on a regular basis.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Internal Control Management**
- Manage and monitor internal controls across business units to provide a holistic view of our control environment
- Evaluate and provide guidance on the design and operating effectiveness of controls to effectively manage risk within the business
- Single point of contact for all controls in Individual Customer & Advisory Network
**Findings Management and Action Tracking**
- Assist business partners in the development of risk mitigation actions to address findings and recommendations from audit and compliance engagements and risk events
- Log, monitor, and report on action items resulting from reviews performed in Individual Customer to ensure actions are being addressed appropriately and in a timely manner
- Analyze control gaps and provide insights into themes into the root cause of findings and risk events
- Oversee review activity conducted through internal and external reviews (e.g., internal audits, Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR), compliance assessments, regulatory reviews, etc.).
**Reporting**
- Create, execute, and regularly enhance reporting to senior leaders to provide insight and guidance as to the status of our control environment
- Implement reporting enhancements to provide increased visibility to contorl environmentrepare and support the organization of material and presenters for the quarterly Risk Operating Committee and the Risk and Compliance Committee
**Internal Controls Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR)**
- Oversee annual ICOFR program and primary liaision with Internal Audit and Finance to coordinate updates, testing, reporting of results
- Support and coordiante any ICOFR related projects
**Qualifications**:
- Knowledge of governance, risk management and control practices
- Experience with control design and testing
- Familiarity with the three line of defense risk management model
- Strong relationship management skills and ability to influence without authority
- Ability to present to senior management
- Change management and/or process improvement experience an asset
- Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills
- Experience building practical, value-added reporting for business leaders
- Understanding of business model and different teams that comprise IC & AN
- Risk Management related designation highly desirable (CPA, CIA, CISA)
- Experience with Power BI and Visio an asset
- Leadership skills
- Positive and professional with an emphasis on collaborative working relationships
