**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience**:
- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- relevant training and experience in teaching Kindergarten or early Primary
- a demonstrated ability and a commitment to embed the Learning Standards in a play-based curriculum conducive to the social/emotional, academic, and physical development of young learners
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs of children
- proven experience with maintaining and/or establishing effective classroom management that includes well established routines and implementation of behavioural support and/or adaptations for all students to experience success with their learning.
- demonstrated ability to select, modify or adapt instructional materials to meet the individual academic, social/emotional, and behavioural needs of students
- experience, training in, and a willingness to carry out the District Early Intervention Screens such as the KLST (Kindergarten Language Screening Test)
- the ability to utilize a variety of assessment processes that effectively allow students to show what they know (assessment for, as, of learning), and allow the teacher to plan for/adjust instruction to meet the collective and individual learning needs of students
- familiarity with, and a proven ability to utilize a wide variety of literacy strategies with young learners including, but not limited to, oral language programs such as _Moe the Mouse_ and _Talking Tables _and a balanced literacy program to promote reading readiness and early writing skills
- demonstrated knowledge, experience, and willingness to teach self-regulation strategies and mindfulness to support the social/emotional needs of the primary student
- knowledge, experience, and willingness to support the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement goals
- commitment to working with colleagues in an open, accepting manner in order to promote a strong and caring professional learning community
