Cancer, Infection, and Arthritis Therapeutics Program

**LOCATION**:401 Smyth Rd, Ottawa, ON, K1H 8L1 (Business and work location)

**TERM**:Full-time (1.0 FTE), 3-year contract with possibility of renewal

**SALARY**:$33.00 to $47.00 per hour

**CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Research Associate.**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under the general supervision of Dr. Tommy Alain, the Research Associate will:

- Engage with national and international networks and partner types
- Lead research
- Write and submit literature reviews, REB submissions, manuscripts
- Supervise and mentor graduate students
- Assist with creation and modification of slides or posters for academic meetings
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES**
- PhD in Biochemistry with a focus on mRNA translation control and oncogenic signaling (Essential)
- Minimum 10 years post-PhD research experience (Essential)
- Established expertise on the study of protein synthesis and molecular techniques associated with translation control - polysome and ribosome profiling from cultured cells and patient samples (Essential)
- Established expertise on techniques to examine critical oncogenic signaling pathways (RSK, mTOR, eIF2alpha) often dysregulated in cancer, most particularly glioblastoma (Essential)
- Established expertise on the study of primary cilia and low-dose ionizing radiation (Essential)
- Demonstrated networking to establish partnerships and national and international collaborations (Essential)
- Minimum 5 years experience supervising and mentoring students in laboratory environment
- Proficiency in bioinformatics and computer skills - R, high throughput data analysis, sequencing (Essential)
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills (Essential)
- Demonstrated collegiality, professionalism and team skills (Essential)
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work independently (Essential)
- Demonstrated leadership skills (Essential)
- Fluency in English (Essential)
- Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese (preferred)

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Flexibility to work in a hybrid work model that would include both remote work and on-site work.

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Eligible to work in Canada;
- Compliance with CHEO RI’s Universal COVID-19 Vaccination Policy; and
- Police Record Check.
