A Research Associate position is available in the Laboratory of Dr. Angela M. Crawley at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), starting as soon as possible. The Research Associate will be a part of the Ottawa Viral and Metabolic Liver Disease Research Group at The Ottawa Hospital and affiliated with the University of Ottawa Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology and the Center for Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation at the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA).

The Research Associate will work to understand the immunological and metabolic mechanisms underlying CD8+ T-cell and/or macrophage dysfunction in chronic liver diseases with advanced liver fibrosis. The research is focused on chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in humans. This project will take advantage of approaches we have developed to conduct research using human primary cells and animal models of liver disease. Specifically, we aim to understand the mechanisms underlying lasting immune cell dysfunction in individuals with advanced liver fibrosis. This research hopes to uncover targets for immune restoration to reduce negative clinical outcomes such as impaired responses to infection and liver cancer as well as poor responses to vaccination and immunotherapy. The Research Associate will work as part of a dynamic and motivated laboratory team investigating immune dysfunction in chronic liver disease.

**Basic Requirements (Education/Experience)**:

- PhD with over 5 years of research experience or other laboratory experience since the date of earning the PhD.
- Must have a strong background in molecular or cellular immunology, with a proven track-record of success in the immunology research.
- Must be highly motivated
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong record of scientific accomplishments, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and scientific presentations
- Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task, work accurately and effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and remain composed in high-pressure situations
- Excellent data management and data visualization skills

**Contract Details**:
This is a full-time, 1-year contract with the possibility of renewal

**Salary**: Min: $27.964/hr. - Max $37.935/hr.
