Position Summary
Medical Secretary II, Nursing and Personal Care, Seniors’ Health Centre Administration
Your goal in this position is to provide secretarial services to Nursing and Personal Care SHC, as well as providing support to nursing and all inter-departments. You have excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills. You communicate in a professional telephone manner and interviewing skills. You are well organized and a self-motivated individual, as well as have the ability to demonstrate and exercise judgement, problem solve and to make decisions and work independently. The position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, learners, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
Work collaboratively to ensure completion of all tasks as assigned
Provide secretarial support to the physicians, inter-departmental team as required including, typing, word processing and filing
Coordinates health records for Senior Assessment Services
Able to work through multiple interruptions
Support and adhere to Hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain statistics for Regional Geriatric Program
Manage confidential information in a sensitive and professional manner
**Qualifications**:
Completion of Medical Secretary Course at a Community College or equivalent
Two years medical secretarial experience
Experience working with the elderly
Experience in dictating preferred
Accurate minimum typing speed of 60 w.p.m. preferred
Proficiency with medical terminology and medical dictaphone typing/word processing an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft including; Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Proficiency in scheduling appointments
Bilingualism in French/English an asset

Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canada’s leading hospitals. This is a Part Time Regular position, with 8 hour shifts, days and evening shifts, including weekends in the SHC Nursing and Personal Care Unit. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.
