The Downtown Rideau Business Improvement Area (BIA) is seeking a dynamic, high energy, and creative Content Creation Assistant to help elevate the profile and reputation of Ottawa's Original Downtown on a one-year, fixed-term contract.
The Downtown Rideau BIA is a high street destination for shopping, dining, arts, culture, and entertainment in the heart of the nation’s capital. Our organization is committed to promoting the area as a top-of-mind destination, advocating for the needs of the local business community, and implementing initiatives that create a sense of place and connect with audiences.
**Experience & Education Requirements**
- Completion of a post-secondary education in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or the equivalent.
- Previous work experience in the communications and/or marketing industry.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
**Essential Skills**
- Thorough understanding of traditional and emerging marketing channels.
- Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive, platform specific, communications and marketing strategies.
- Ability to independently plan, lead, coordinate, implement, and manage projects to completion with mínimal supervision.
- Strong research and analysis skills to track and report on performance and progress.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively, using data and research to back up decisions.
- Professional judgement, foresight, and discretion.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster constructive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues, agencies, members, and stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and meet all required deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
**Responsibilities**
- Work with the Digital Marketing & Communications Coordinator to ensure that content is relevant, appealing to audiences, addresses shifts in consumer preferences, improves market position, and drives growth.
- Document, capture, and create high-quality, professional photo and video assets.
- Maintain a thorough, up-to-date, and organized database of photo and video assets for the organization that can be leveraged by everyone involved in showcasing the area.
- Gather and publish promotional material from stakeholders for all available and appropriate channels (share content on social media, FX pole signage promotions, etc.)
- Confidently present and articulate marketing concepts to the team.
- Plan and publish 15 original, compelling, strategic and professional social media posts per platform.
- Amplify member content across social media platforms.
- Thoughtfully and appropriately monitor, engage, and respond to inquiries on social media platforms.
- Ensure timely updates to the events calendar and proactively identify opportunities for promotion.
- Develop and publish professionally written blogs that are engaging, aligned with identified content pillars, and optimized for SEO and clicks.
- Work with the Administration & Operations Coordinator to maintain the business directory and ensure it is up to date through weekly reviews.
- Ensure that search engine optimization is managed appropriately through audits and updates that are accessible, compliant and effective.
- Work with the Administration & Operations Coordinator to Maintain an up-to-date list of member and stakeholder contact information.
- Support the Digital Marketing & Communications Coordinator in providing monthly reports analyzing performance and progress across all marketing channels.
- Other duties as assigned.
