Sinai Health is committed to developing an organization-wide program of clinical and capacity building activities to support patients with Substance Use Disorders. To support this new initiative, Sinai Health is looking for a **Mental Health and Addictions Clinician** to support our **Substance Use Service in the Department of Psychiatry at our Mount Sinai Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital Sites**, with focus on expanding inpatients consultation services, outpatient care, quality improvement and health professions education.
As part of a new inter-professional team, the role will involve program development, patient care and capacity building well as broad integration into other key clinical services, particularly pain medicine, emergency medicine and partners within Psychiatry. The role will support transitions to the community, and helping build capacity in health care provider to work with people who use drugs locally and regionally. Key components of clinical care will be patient engagement, intensive care management, and connection to/matching to services in the community. As the program evolves, the future needs of the role may change to include integration of health professions trainees.
**Philosophy of Care**
We endeavor to provide service excellence standards to enhance, facilitate, support, and empower patients experiencing the effects of substance use disorders. This is achieved by involving the client actively in the change process and encouraging the client to take responsibility for the outcome they achieve. Different approaches to substances use (safer supply, harm reduction, addiction medicine, 12 step and abstinence-based interventions) may have to be adapted to both the patient/client and the clinical context (emergency medicine, medicine and surgical floors, pain medicine service, post-acute care facility, and outpatient practice).
**Responsibilities**:
- Coordinate and provide clinical care that both facilitates and supports recovery for patients facing a broad range of mental health and addition challenges
- Ability to triage, complete mental health assessments, formulate treatment plans, monitor client response to therapeutic interventions and ongoing collaboration and communication with the inter-professional team and with the client's social and community networks. Ability to complete Addiction Medicine Assessments are an asset.
- Assist with system navigation and serve as a point of access to liaise with appropriate community agencies across a broad range of sectors
- Provide short term treatment and counselling using a variety of treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, individually or in group sessions
- Proficiency in completing behavioral observations and mental status assessments that help formulate and develop care plans and psychosocial interventions
- Contribute to program development, evaluation and research, support community outreach and service initiatives for the program including educational presentations, provide education and support to learners of all disciplines
- Articulate both verbally and in writing across a range of technologies in a manner that builds trust, respect, and credibility and that ensures the message is received and understood by the audience
- Maintain current and accurate confidential records of client files, and attend to related requests for documentation in a timely and consistent manner
- Adjust the approach to meet the demands and needs of constantly changing conditions, situations and people
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities, and engage in reciprocal relationships of learning with colleagues to stay current in the field. A focus will be on helping colleagues work with people who use drugs
- Job Requirements- Master’s degree in social work, Occupational therapy, Nursing or related clinical discipline
- Registration and current membership in good standing with a relevant regulatory college
- Minimum 2 years relevant work experience in a mental health and addictions setting required
- Familiarity with and ability to provide psychotherapy through psychotherapeutic techniques targeting mood, anxiety, trauma, substance use, motivation for change, and concurrent disorders through both individual and group modalities
