**The opportunity**:
The Community Engaged Learning Coordinator is responsible for coordinating university-wide community engaged learning opportunities at the University of Manitoba, which connect students with different forms of community engagement and community work on and off campus and support students, staff, and faculty to work in good ways with equity-deserving communities. This position maintains a program portfolio that is focused on entry-level community engaged learning programming, including community engagement, volunteering, and project-based learning, and developing programs and resources that support student, staff, and faculty in learning about and taking action for anti-racism and anti-oppression.
The CEL Coordinator develops and facilitates student programming grounded in the Working in Good Ways framework and resources and assists the larger CEL office in delivering programming, training, and advising on Working in Good Ways (Indigenous Community Engagement) for staff and faculty. Community Engaged Learning offers programming in community engagement, Indigenous engagement, poverty awareness, land-based education, Indigenous youth mentoring, and anti-racism, anti-oppression, and EDI education.
The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining good relationships with external community organizations and community members, including grassroots groups, community organizations, and suppliers, as well as internal stakeholders, including the Indigenous Student Centre, the International Centre, various faculties and departments, the University of Manitoba Students' Union, the Graduate Students Association, the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, Learning and Organizational Development, and others.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
- Undergraduate degree from a relevant discipline, such as Black Studies, Disability Studies, Labour Studies, Education, Indigenous Studies, Inner-City Social Work, Community Development, Sociology, etc required.
- Minimum two years directly related experience in community organizing, community development, community education, or other forms of community engagement required.
- Experience facilitating or teaching of poverty awareness and/or anti-racism education is required.
- Experience developing workshops, curriculum, or other educational resources is required.
- Experience developing and facilitating community engaged learning and other community engaged or experiential pedagogies is preferred.
- Experience facilitating youth mentorship and/or university bridging programming is preferred.
- Experience with traditional Indigenous practices, ceremonies, and protocols is preferred.
- Experience training, mentoring, and supervising junior staff and/or volunteers is preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Demonstrated ability building relationships and working with community organizations, Indigenous communities, low-income communities, or other equity-deserving communities is required. Existing campus and/or community connections and relationships are required.
- Must possess effective leadership skills.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact required.
- Must be able to work well with others in collaborative environments.
- Must have an innovative and flexible approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution. - Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to develop, plan and execute complex projects with limited supervision required.
- Effective time management, record keeping, and organizational skills required.
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality required.
- Assessment and evaluation skills are required.
- Risk management skills are required.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering sustainable programs is required.
- Demonstrated experience mitigating and managing ethical and sustainability issues in community engagement is required.
