The City of Fort Saskatchewan has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, highly competent, results orientated, progressive leader. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for the overall leadership and management of Operations/Training and Emergency Management of Fire Services. The Deputy Fire Chief is a member of the Fire Services Leadership Team and supports and implements the vision and direction of the Fire chief, while playing a critical leadership role in achieving the departments’ operational goals and objectives. The Deputy Fire Chief supports initiatives that contribute to achieving the organizational-wide Diversity and Inclusion strategy and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Promote the City’s commitment to diversity, inclusions and Truth and Reconciliation within the department, organization and community.
**Responsibilities**:
This position develops and maintains the departments’ operations program to ensure the departments compliance with occupational health and safety and operational effectiveness; develops and maintains the departments professional development training program to ensure the departments compliance with mentorship and professional development; develops and maintains the departments firefighter Paid On Call recruit training program; develops and maintains the departments asset and material management program including, but not limited to, preventative maintenance; develops and maintains the departments incident mitigation program, which includes, but is not limited to, incident safety education and community education outreach; and develops and maintains all planning and logístical related documentation and records.
The Deputy Fire Chief will develop, update and maintain the Emergency Management Program while coordinating with regional partners. This position supports the efforts of, and represents, the region and the City of Fort Saskatchewan on the Capital Region Emergency Preparedness Partnership (C-REPP) committee and the Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response (NR-CAER) committee. The Deputy Fire Chief will coordinate all training with municipal staff, provide business continuity planning and budgets to the Emergency Advisory Committee, as well as, act as the Deputy Director of Emergency Management (DDEM) as required.
**Qualifications**:
The City of Fort Saskatchewan recognizes the value of addressing mental health needs and encourages engagement in conversations regarding mental health. The Deputy Fire Chief must be prepared to participate and communicate in matters regarding mental health and foster a culture of well-being.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
