**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief (Operations & Training), the Fire Training Officer will be responsible for planning, developing, coordination, and implementing comprehensive training programs to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of our fire personnel. They work closely with the four (4) platoons to ensure they are equipped with the necessary training to effectively respond to emergency situations, improve their performance, and maintain a high level of operational readiness.
**Responsibilities**:
- include, but are not limited to:
- Design and deliver training initiatives that align with the department’s strategic objectives, covering areas such as firefighting, apparatus operations, hazardous materials, water/ice rescue, rope rescue, emergency medical services, incident command, and other relevant topics.
- Coordinate and develop an annual training calendar based on professional development plans in conjunction with the Platoon Chiefs.
- Develop and implement training metrics and objectives related to job performance requirements required to meet the established department level of service.
- Organize and conduct classroom lectures, hands-on drills, simulations, and practical exercises to provide operational employees with practical knowledge, skills development, and experience.
- Create and maintain training materials, including presentations, manuals, handouts, videos, and online resources, to support the training program.
- Accurately document training activities, attendance, evaluations, and certification.
- Offer guidance supervision and support to new recruits, less-experienced firefighters and trainers.
**Qualifications**:
The following certificates are required:
- NFPA 1001 - Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications (Level 1 & 2)
- NFPA 1002 - Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications (Driver, Pump, and Aerial)
- NFPA 1006 - Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations
- NFPA 1021 - Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (Level 1 & 2)
- NFPA 1041 - Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications (Level 1 & 2)
- NFPA 1521 - Incident Safety Officer
- NFPA 1031 - Standard for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Professional Qualifications, Level 1
- Ice Rescue Technician
- Swift Water Rescue Technician
- Pleasure Craft Operators License
- Boat Rescue Operator
- ICS 300
- Blue Card Incident Command
- Safety Codes Officer Group A
- Alberta Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operators License, or equivalent with Air Brake Endorsement and no more than five (5) demerits.
- Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics
- CPR BLS Provider

- AMSHA Leadership for Safety Excellence
This position is within the scope of IAFF Local 5277, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday) Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
