**JOB OVERVIEW**

The Centre Linguistique du Cégep de Jonquière is excited to host its annual Explore Ottawa immersion program this summer. Explore Ottawa is an intensive, three-week-long English language program for youth aged 13-15, mostly from Quebec. In 2025, we are running two sessions, **from June 23 to August 8**. We are currently seeking a **Student Life Assistant** to join our team. This position plays a key role in supporting both students and parents throughout the program, particularly in relation to the host family experience. The Student Life Assistant also contributes to the day-to-day operations of the program, helping ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. We’re looking for a reliable, dynamic individual with strong communication and organizational skills, who enjoys working with youth in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Act as the primary point of contact for students and parents regarding host family related questions or concerns.
- Resolve conflicts or misunderstandings in a calm and professional manner.
- Serve as a liaison between the host family agency and students, ensuring smooth communication and follow-up.
- Assist students with minor health issues by helping them access clinics or appropriate support services.
- Provide guidance on navigating public transportation and getting around the city safely.
- Support administrative operations of the program when required.
- Collaborate with the program manager to ensure events and outings run smoothly.
- Work with colleagues to encourage English usage and enforce language and behavior rules
- Take part in the rotation of the program’s emergency cellphone (2-3 days per week), remaining on call to respond to student emergencies outside of regular hours and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
- Regularly collaborate with team members and promptly report major issues or problems to the program manager.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and orientation.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all program participants.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Must meet the eligibility criteria for Canada Summer Jobs: be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _and be between 18-30 years old at the start of the employment.
- Hold or be in the process of obtaining a degree in social working, psychology, education or another field related to youth services, community engagement, or student life.
- Be fully bilingual in English and French
- Have experience working with youth in a camp, school, or student services setting.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts calmly and professionally.
- Be highly organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Be comfortable handling challenging or confrontational situations.
- Have experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds.
- Prior experience in a support or customer service role is an asset.

**Salary**: $21.50 per hour

**Job Duration**: 1 week of training from June 23 to June 28 (20-30 h) and 6 weeks of Explore Program from July 2 to August 8 (Average of 30-35 h/ week)

**Location**: Algonquin College, 1385 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa, ON K2G 1V8

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 6 weeks

Pay: $21.50 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
