Compensation: $66 - $77/hr, based on experience

**Reports To**:Louise McKissick, RSW, Executive Director

**Summary**:The contract clinical counsellor provides counselling/psychotherapy, assessments, and treatment. The clinical counsellor uses psychological, psychotherapeutic and clinical social work theories, practices and techniques to increase the well being of individuals, couples, families and groups across the lifespan. Client presenting conditions include: anxiety and depression, Axis one and two mental illnesses, adjustment to physical illness, neurological disorders, addictive behaviors, eating disorders, behaviour disorders, personal and family relationship problems and learning disabilities. Of particular importance is awareness of the intergenerational impact of colonialism and the residential school system on Indigenous people, particularly in terms of culture and identity, as well as the lingering and far-reaching effects of multi-generational trauma.

The clinical counsellor ensures that patients are provided care in accordance with policies, procedures, standards and regulations. The counsellor acts as a friend providing counselling psychotherapeutic support and guidance to enable patients to best help themselves using a variety of behavioural health clinical interventions.

Note: Wellspring is partnered with Northwestern Ontario School of Medicine University in the early stages of research into psychedelic integration therapy from the harm reduction standpoint. Wellspring is also advancing AI assisted and e-mental health protocols in office to support clinicians case notes and to support clients healing journeys.

**Job Duties**
- Assess patients' needs, abilities and behaviour utilizing psychosocial assessments, intake assessment, interviews and direct observation of behaviour methods.
- Document client progress and observations in clinical notes; familiarity and use of all clinical and booking aspects of clinical software management program essential.
- Offer therapy and expertise for treating patients with anxiety, depression, addictions, social and interpersonal problems, challenging behaviour and other difficult problems.
- Consult with the clinical team and take part in other consultation activities as needed.
- Engage in ongoing professional development as needed.
- Submit Time Sheets, Mileage and Monthly Schedules to Manager.
- Participates in peer reviews and supervision as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:

- Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Psychoptherapy.
- Valid professional college license or registration as required by the province.
- Minimum 2 million dollars professional practice liability insurance.
- Vulnerable Sectors Criminal Background Check Clearance.
- Excellent assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous / Anishnaabe clients an asset.
- Ability to write reports and procedure manuals.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, public groups, and/or Board.
- Knowledge of current best practice evidence based mental health interventions and familiarity with a range of therapeutic interventions.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require and must know when to refer a patient for further medical assessment due to risk to self or others.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of Jane Clinic Management System, telehealth and distance based teleconference systems, MS Word, Excel, Google Suite, and e
- mail required.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
