Personal Chef

FoodZen is an in-home personal chef service that helps bring zen to busy family schedules, assists professionals in a better work/life balance, and helps seniors maintain their independence. We have a passion for providing fresh ingredients over processed food, putting our client’s health and wellness first while preparing exceptional food, saving them time and money. We also offer an in-home private dining experience for special occasions and customizable private cooking classes.

FoodZen is growing and looking to hire a dedicated and skilled personal chef to prepare meals for clients according to their preferences and dietary needs. This is a great role for parents looking for work that coordinates with their children’s schedule, or restaurant employees looking for more daytime hours.

The personal chef’s responsibilities include preparing meals on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly bases in the client’s homes, planning customized menus according to the client's specifications, preferences, and dietary needs, shopping for ingredients, and packaging meals accordingly with detailed reheating instructions. On occasion, the personal chef could be hired for a private in-home dinner service or cooking class.

To be successful as a personal chef, you should be detail-oriented and knowledgeable of different cuisines with a strong understanding of specialty diets and allergies. Ultimately, a top-notch personal chef should be able to handle criticism from clients as well as demonstrate exceptional communication, time management, and customer service skills at all times.

Personal Chef Responsibilities:

- Conferring with clients to determine their meal preferences, specifications, food allergies, and dietary restrictions.
- Preparing customized meal plans for clients based on their preferences, specifications, and dietary needs.
- Shopping for ingredients as well as necessary kitchen tools and equipment.
- Inspecting meal ingredients before making purchases to ensure that they are of the highest quality.
- Preparing meals in clients' kitchens in accordance with food health and safety regulations.
- Cleaning and sanitizing work areas before and after meal preparation.
- Appropriately packaging and labelling prepared meals that are to be consumed at a later date.
- Providing clients with written or verbal instructions on how to reheat their meals.
- Occasionally help the client with any kitchen-related rental needs.

Personal Chef Requirements:

- Degree in culinary arts or two to four years of equivalent experience
- Food Handler Certification
- Passionate about using fresh ingredients over processed
- Proven culinary experience
- Sound knowledge of different cuisines, specialty diets & allergies
- A strong understanding of nutrition
- The ability to handle criticism
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Detail-oriented
- Proficient with Microsoft Word or Google Docs
- Comfortable with capturing pictures for social media
- Have access to your own transportation with room for equipment and groceries

Schedule:

- Day Shift, hours typically fall between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM or 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM
- Shifts are typically scheduled Mondays to Thursdays with Fridays as admin days (open to negotiating days).
- Average of 21 to 30 hours per week depending on the number of clients, our competitive wages help your reach full time pay even when you don't have a full client list.
- Optional evenings and weekends shift to support private dinners.

Part-time hours: 21-30 per week

**Salary**: From $25.00 per hour
