DMC is seeking a seasoned, highly technical and versatile Vice President, Human Resources to join our Corporate HR team in Vaughan, Ontario. As a member of the Executive Team, the Vice President, Human Resources will be responsible for the overall Human Resources operations of the company. They will be a key advisor to and confidante of the President and other Executives on critical issues of organization design, human capital, compensation, talent management, and succession planning. This role will involve translating the corporation’s business strategy into effective human resources programs, and creating an environment that encourages cooperation and innovation within HR and other areas of the company.
The successful incumbent will be very analytical, tactical with deep functional experience and possessing thoughtful problem-solving capabilities. Ability to navigate an extremely dynamic environment with constantly shifting priorities and ever-changing challenges with a keen sense of urgency will be key. This position requires rolling up your sleeves, wearing lots of hats, and balancing strategic and hands-on tactical work in a high-pressure demanding environment.
**Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for all Human Resource Management (company-wide) which includes all HR programs & policies, compensation, benefits, staffing, employee relations, HRIS, HR legal issues, regulatory compliance and training/development functions.
- Ensures human resource management activities maximize the strategic use of human resources.
- Ensures that the company is abreast of market trends, salary data and other relevant data, participating in surveys, conferences, etc. as required.
- Leads in the development of the organizational strategic human resources plan to ensure adequate skilled resources to meet organizational needs.
- Responsible for the development and management of the company Human Resources budget.
- Facilitates, manages, and resolves complex employee issues by conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations while writing concise and legally defensible documentation when warranted.
- Diagnoses, re-engineers and executes various programs, processes, policies, and services related to resource planning, succession management, retention, employee development, compensation and benefits, employee engagement and recognition, performance management and learning and development.
- Facilitates and oversees change management efforts with ongoing HR transformation initiatives to enhance functionality of HR systems and processes. Includes digital/technological integration, process re-engineering, streamlining processes, and identifying opportunities for simplification and automation.
- Provides guidance and oversight in managing various group benefit programs (multiple countries), which includes plan design changes/creation; cost analysis; renewal negotiation; scrutinizing master agreement/contract documentation; planning, analyzing and executing carrier transition while mitigating risk and exposure.
- Manages, develops and supports a team of human resource professionals.
- Oversees and executes multiple concurrent cyclical projects.

**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Legal, Business Management or related field.
- CHRL designation is an asset.
- 15+ years of solid technical/in-depth experience across several functional areas. Experience in a global organization such as mining/metals, heavy civil/construction and/or project-based industry is an asset; experience with start-up or entrepreneurial environments is also an asset.
- Extremely strong legal and technical background to assess risk and implement solutions with exceptional writing capabilities. Expert knowledge of Canadian legislation/labor laws across most provinces. Exposure to USA or other country legislation/laws is an asset.
- Excellent resourcefulness and critical thinking skills are required.
- High attention to detail with the capacity to structure ambiguous problems, conduct complicated analysis, identify key insights, and recommend actions logically and efficiently.
- Ability to think strategically and act operationally.
- Experience in change intervention, re-designing processes, implementing technological systems and identifying optimization opportunities. Exposure in managing large end-to-end cross-functional initiatives is an asset.
