We're based in Vaughan, Ontario, with 15 regional locations that include custom manufacturing facilities in Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg, as well as cash and carry locations, product showrooms and equipment demo sites. Spicers Canada is part of Central National Gottesman Inc. (CNG), a global seller and distributor of paper, pulp, packaging materials, metals and wood products.
We are currently looking for a Full-Time Vice President, Packaging located in Vaughan, Ontario, reporting to the President.
Position Summary
Spicers Canada ULC is seeking an experienced Vice President, Packaging to set the vision, strategy, and execution plan for our industrial packaging business across Canada. This national role drives growth, innovation, and operational excellence across all aspects of the industrial packaging business including sales, marketing, vendor management, and customer experience to expand market share and profitability. The Vice President, Packaging is accountable for expanding and strengthening customer relationships, developing innovative programs, and empowering a high-performing national sales team to execute against aggressive growth targets.
Your Challenge
Under supervision of the President, the duties and responsibilities of the Vice President, Packaging include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and lead the national packaging strategy aligned with corporate goals and growth ambitions.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth through scalable programs, channel expansion, and strategic national account development.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer insights to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with the executive team on business planning, budgeting, pricing strategy, and margin improvement.
- Provide strategic leadership to Sales Directors and the Category Director—coaching for performance and accountability.
- Build and maintain strong senior-level relationships with key customers and supplier partners.
- Oversee the execution of packaging programs at the regional level, ensuring consistent customer experience nationwide.
- Develop and maintain robust sales processes and performance reporting to guide team decisions.
- Approve inventory decisions related to product additions, deletions, and stocking levels within the strategic vendor commitment program; coordinate with all divisions to optimize packaging inventory asset management
- Partner with marketing to create targeted campaigns, product launches, and packaging promotions tailored to industry verticals.
- Lead vendor negotiations and partnerships to improve product assortment, pricing, and market competitiveness.
- Ensure the packaging portfolio reflects innovation, industry trends, and sustainability priorities.
- Support operational alignment to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective order fulfillment
- Foster a high-performance culture rooted in collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Serve as a senior member of the executive leadership team, contributing to company-wide strategy and direction.
- Adherence to the Spicers leadership expectations and core guiding principles.
- Perform other duties and strategic initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field; MBA is an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the packaging industry or similar sectors.
- Deep understanding of packaging materials, equipment, supply chain dynamics, and customer buying behavior.
- Track record of success managing large national accounts and leading geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and margin management.
- Excellent communicator and negotiator with strong relationship-building skills.
- Highly strategic thinker with proven ability to execute complex initiatives and deliver results.
- Knowledge of inventory systems, especially in perishable goods, is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to influence, develop, and empower employees to achieve objectives with a team approach
