The Opportunity:
ApplyBoard is looking for a media-savvy, strategic, and creative Manager, Public Relations to join our dynamic Marketing Team. Reporting to the Director, Marketing Communications, this exciting role will be responsible for leading the media charge by sharing insights, new products, and impactful programs as only ApplyBoard can in its mission to educate the world.
What you’ll be doing every day:
- Lead ApplyBoard’s public relations and media relations strategy, pitch schedule, and development of media facing content such as press releases and media pitches.- Build relationships with contacts at national, international, and trade media outlets and publications to drive brand awareness and coverage.- Secure top-tier media coverage for ApplyBoard to elevate the brand and executive thought leadership inside and outside the international student sector.- Respond to incoming media inquiries and proactively seek our media engagement and coverage opportunities.- Support and mentor the work of direct report, Public Relation Specialist, in their projects and efforts, particularly international media relations in India and beyond.- Collaborate across the marketing teams and other departments to align key milestones in the company with storytelling and media opportunities.- Assist with public-facing communication initiatives including high-profile speaking engagements/presentations, relationship building meetings, and issues management.- Actively monitor print and digital media for ApplyBoard mentions and trending topics related to higher education.- Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of PR activities, making recommendations for continuous improvement.- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in English, journalism, communications, public relations or communications-related field.- 7+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, journalism, or communications.- Strong record of building close relations with media and of working in an organization with a high-profile reputation, often in the media spotlight.- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including writing, editing, proofing, and presenting.- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials and situations with the utmost discretion.- Track record in developing, pitching, and landing stories in the media, including op-eds and thought leadership pieces. Doing so in an agency environment is an asset.- Experience working with senior executives and leaders, an asset- Experience working with a media monitoring platform like Meltwater, Cision, or Muck Rack, an asset
