**Basic Function**: The Species Impact Coordinator is responsible for working closely with Reverse the Red to achieve their goals through growing, organizing, and motivating strategic recovery focused action for threatened species. This position will be responsible for working with the guidance and insights from Reverse the Red’s many partners at the direction of the Reverse the Red Strategy Director to leverage existing relationships, data-sources, and new methods to grow, understand and utilize data to motivate and mobilize strategic recovery-focused actions. This role will interface with individual organizations, global networks, governments and more. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
**Responsibilities**:
- Connects with and recruits relevant conservation organizations to submit species pledges.
- Develops and manages data systems to provide current information for strategic decision making.
- Fosters species pledge annual updates through a data system.
- Creates continuous communications, highlighting tools, strategies and best practices to pledge partners to refine the quality and impact of actions.
- Develop datasets in a manner to algin and collaborate with other key international data sets.
- Manages Pledge Accelerator Award process.
- Works in partnership with IUCN Canada to create a model for how data can be utilized to accelerate species conservation.
- Works with Reverse the Red Strategy Director and National Network Working group to create targeted country-by-country Pledge campaigns.
- Presents on the Species Pledge at key relevant events virtually and in-person.
- Assists in the development of communication materials and dissemination of project achievements.
- Works closely with all Zoo departments in the design, layout and execution of relevant conservation and education materials, graphics, and campaigns.
- Contributes to the development of conservation strategic and master plans integrating national and international perspectives
- Participates in public facing activities, such as tours, presentations, media interviews, and special events as a scientific expert and ambassador for the Zoo.
- Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
- Follows all branch instructions.
- Capable of meeting physical requirements of the position.
**Qualifications**:
- Must have a minimum of a graduate degree in Science with a major in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies or Data Management, or Environmental Data Science.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of proven work experience in the same or similar position.
- An understanding of species conservation.
- An understanding of Indigenous approaches to conservation.
- An understanding of intergovernmental work (e.g. Convention on Biological Diversity).
- Ability to leverage data for decision making and motivation action at various levels.
- Biological field research experience along with experience in statistical analysis.
- GIS and spatial data information systems experience and training.
- Experience in public speaking.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Publisher, Database Management, Internet, Web page design and UTML; Excel and PowerPoint; GIS. Google online products and software.
- Must possess sound working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) legislation, Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Toronto Zoo Safety Policies.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
- Must possess a driver's license valid in the Province of Ontario along with a good driving record.
- Willing to travel internationally.
- Must be able to work weekends, variable shifts (evenings, early mornings), and holidays as scheduled.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
- Additional skills that could be beneficial to the position include fundraising, grant writing, multi-lingual, coding, web development, and/or academic research and publication experience.
