Head of Carbon Acquisition

Ottawa, Canada Invert Full time

**The Company**

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and the team at Invert is building innovative tools that empower individuals and businesses alike to tackle the problem head on. We are a team of experienced start-up scalers that have taken ideas from a whiteboard to the New York Stock Exchange, all while maintaining a focus on a rewarding, award-winning team culture. At this early stage of Invert's growth, we're looking for talented people who are passionate about making a difference through their work.

Our company does two key things.

First, we invest in projects that result in carbon credits being created, such as planting a forest or building a machine that sucks CO2 from the air. By selling these credits on to individuals or businesses, we are able to generate revenue that lets us make more investments in projects that reduce or remove CO2, and we continue the cycle

Second, we are creating a place (more specifically, an app) where individuals can go to learn about what they can do themselves to address this giant problem of climate change. We want to help individuals understand their own impact on the world, and give them a chance to support carbon offset projects. We want every individual to be carbon neutral, and we want them to get there in an engaging manner with rich content and community.

**Place of Work**

We work virtually from London to Toronto to Melbourne, with a physical home base office in Ottawa, Canada. Our team meetings are held within EST working hours.

**Our Fit**

We’re strong believers that diversity, equity and inclusion are a key strength and integral to our future success. We want colleagues that can think differently, bring a range of experiences, are creative within their role, and know how to drive towards a team goal. We value both experience and expertise but emphasize capitalizing on the future potential of remarkable people. We’re looking for colleagues who want to take action on climate change and drive our society towards net zero emissions by 2050. We believe in working hard and in being flexible in how we get things done. We believe that working with good and kind people is as important as working with smart people. Our compensation model embodies rewards for performance and we believe everyone in the company should share in the upside of our success. In order to ensure this, we offer equity participation in addition to salary.

**The Opportunity**

Reporting to the Co-CEO you will oversee securing the best carbon credit acquisition opportunities in the world, with a primary focus on origination/development partnerships, a secondary focus on streaming and royalty deals, and a tertiary focus, where appropriate, of securing spot market carbon credits. You will be responsible for identifying these opportunities, engaging with the counter-parties, securing deals and bringing them to completion. You will be a key contributor to the strategic discussions surrounding optimal credit opportunities (geography, compliance versus voluntary market, avoidance versus reduction, nature-based versus technology-based, and so on). You will have a team of supporters including on-the-ground experts in carbon project development, financial team support including modelling, and legal support for deal conclusion.

More particularly, you will lead carbon acquisition and business development to identify and secure project origination, streaming and investment opportunities in carbon credit markets, including:
**The experience we’re looking for**
- Develop in-depth knowledge of company offerings to identify profitable business opportunities.
- Lead business development initiatives by assessing the competitive landscape, business case development, conducting due diligence, lead generation and sourcing of opportunities within carbon markets.
- Work closely with technical teams, financial modellers, due diligence and negotiating team to identify the right deals and bring them to closure.
- Work closely with leadership and cross-functional members of management to drive and implement corporate strategy and long-range planning based on current portfolio opportunities and risks, financing needs and organizational capabilities. Assist in identifying portfolio, financing and/or organizational gaps and plans for how to best address them.
- Track new markets and emerging trends, and prepare business development documents, presentations, and briefing books. Prepare, evaluate and present robust analyses to value projects and terms; develop, participate and deliver high-level impactful presentations and conclusions to senior management and key stakeholders. Participate in deal construction and negotiations.
- Assess ongoing supplier and vendor operations to recommend improvements as needed.
- Deliver detailed information, insights and strategic recommendations to help our clients achieve their marketing objectives
- Build upon existing client relationships to drive increased
