**GALLERY ASSISTANT POSITION DESCRIPTION**

WALL SPACE GALLERY is a commercial gallery representing emerging and established Canadian artists. We take pleasure in helping clients start and build their collections of fine art through artwork sales and consultations. An equally important part of the business is helping a client select custom framing to enhance artwork purchased from the gallery or from their personal collection.

We take pride in having a welcoming and approachable space where clients can come into a friendly environment to make artwork purchases and are committed to thought provoking and engaging exhibitions.

**Salary**: $19 - $21/hour

**We are looking for someone who has**:

- A friendly and flexible personality with excellent communication skills
- Education or background/training in the fine arts (MA or BA in Art History, BFA, Museum Studies, gallery experience or other relevant experience)
- The ability to establish a rapport with clients and provide exceptional customer service
- A good sense of colour/design principles and an understanding of imperial unit system
- Computer (PC/Microsoft/Mac/Photoshop) and social media skills
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills, with the ability to take on the appropriate tone for different audiences and media
- The ability to stand or sit for long periods, climb ladders and lift heavy artwork
- The ability to work some evenings and most Saturdays

**Duties will include**:

- Greeting/ welcoming clients in the gallery and monitoring the gallery
- Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in the gallery
- Helping clients select artwork and custom framing
- Corresponding with and maintaining relationships with clients and artists
- Staying current with the gallery’s represented artists and practices
- Managing gallery inventory, labelling art and updating pricing
- Rearranging artwork in the gallery and installing exhibitions
- Installing hardware on artwork and framing as required
- Creating sales invoices and using the POS system to take payment

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 30 per week

**Salary**: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
