**Job Summary**

About the position

In support of the NGC’s strategic pillars to strengthen community connections through transformative art experiences; build a collection and program that inspires human connection; and to empower, support and build a diverse and collaborative team, the Gallery is hiring one position of Curatorial Assistant. The Curatorial Assistant position supports multiple facets of the curatorial division related to acquisitions, programming, scheduling and coordinating, and stakeholder and community engagement.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Senior Curator of Canadian Art, the Curatorial Assistant will carry out tasks related to the three periods of the collection, Early, Later and Modern Canadian Art. Duties include assisting in the research and processing of acquisitions; cataloguing, documenting and maintaining works of art already in the collection; research related to exhibitions, and other programming. The incumbent also researches and supports the preparation of various didactic materials for permanent collection installations; drafts replies in response to public or professional inquiries; assists in outreach, development and community relations; liaises with patrons, donors, artists’ estates, and other NGC stakeholders; carries out various administrative functions related to programming, acquisitions and collection management.

**Requirements**:

- Master’s degree in art history or a related field; or equivalent experience within arts/cultural organizations;
- Knowledge in the area of historical and 20th-century Canadian art;
- Knowledge of current art museum methodologies and practices;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and to work well under pressure;
- A collaboratively-minded colleague with the ability to work independently and as a team member;
- Ability to coordinate, control and organize multiple functions and activities;
- Cross-cultural curatorial experience would be an asset.
