Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Fabrication Supervisor, the Graphic Production Technician will produce, install and maintain labels, signage and graphics related to, but not limited to, the exhibitions at the National Gallery of Canada. They will review incoming work requests, determine the work required and schedule it to synchronize with other projects on hand to meet all deadlines. They will use computer graphic software, hardware and related equipment and/or various manual methods to complete the work assigned, ensuring materials and methods are meeting all NGC quality and design standards. The technician is to maintain the shop's tools, materials and equipment. They will assist other Exhibition Services technicians as required and perform any related duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in graphic production, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a museum (an asset).
  • Detailed knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment generally used.
  • Advanced manual and technical skills to use materials and equipment to achieve results which meet NGC's design and quality standards and expectations.
  • Ability to estimate accurately the amount of time, expertise and material that each task will require.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal plans and directions and work together in a team with others.
  • Ability and skills to help solve problems and formulate effective solutions promptly, in a positive, calm and constructive manner.
  • Computer skills including specialised graphic design and production systems and programs (e.g. Illustrator, SignMate Pro), Outlook and InfoMuse (web-based internal communication).
  • The ability to manage several, overlapping and/or last-minute work demands in order to quickly respond to clients' needs and to meet their deadlines.
