Job Summary
Organizational Status
Reports directly and daily to program Director (Teresa Liu-Ambrose).
Working Relationship
The position will work directly and report to the Faculty member who is mounting the study. This will involve working with developed systems and procedures, as well as developing new protocols with the research team and Director, and following direction from the Director of the research program (will working as a part of a team, under direction).
Work Performed
- Coordinate and provide oversight trials of behavioural interventions. This includes helping to develop intervention protocols and training of instructors/trainees/volunteers to deliver the interventions per protocol.
- Delivery of exercise or behavioural interventions as lead instructor when required (e.g., staffing shortages, illnesses).
- Provide oversight to exercise protocols implemented across different studies being conducted in the Director’s research program, ensuring they are delivered according to protocol. This includes the completion of scheduled observations and checklist, documenting any deviations, and take necessary actions are taken to correct deviations. This also included tracking participant adherence as well as progression over time across interventions.
- Contribute to the data collection of research studies according to protocol and ensuring proper safekeeping of data - this includes downloading data from instruments and storing them on secure UBC servers and filing paper-based data collection forms in secure cabinets. May be required to complete additional training to assist with data collection.
- Make telephone calls to collect data; every effort must be made to ensure the timeliness of these phone calls and completeness of data collection.
- Create and manage confidential data research files; this includes ensuring only deidentified data are provided for data analysis and ensuring all data are secured stored.
- Provide oversight on data entry; this includes ensuring the existence of a data dictionary, documentation of errors, deviations, exceptions, and training of trainees, volunteers, research assistants in data entry.
- Prepare (cleaning, quality checks, organization) data ready for statistical analyses and publication
- Assist with manuscript publications by providing descriptive tables and basic literature searches
- Collect data according to protocol and enter data with mínimal error with direct supervision from the Director using preset forms and databases.
- Monitor all adverse events reported in the different studies, document them, and have them reviewed by each study’s data and safety monitoring committees.
- Assist Director with planning and booking of facilities for research seminars and conferences hosted by the Aging, Mobility, and Cognitive Neuroscience Research Lab.
- Liaises with research participants to develop relationships that is positive and informative
- Liaises and coordinates with research staff, graduate students, and volunteers to complete tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Support to the activities of the Aging, Mobility, and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory by selecting, supervising, and training UBC WorkLearns, graduate students, undergraduate trainees, and new staff in assessment and laboratory procedures.
- Assist the Director in activities relating to lab management, such as tracking inventory, pcard reconciliation, purchase of supplies, organizing files/the physical lab space, and CV updating.
- Assist graduate students in their thesis work, after discussion with Director.
- Assures established lab safety & ensures safety procedures are followed.
- Will onboard new members to the Lab and ensure all training and certificates are acquired.
- With Director and other research staff, coordinate time lines on deadline driven tasks, and execute accordingly.
- Run preset experiments or tasks as requested by the Director and Research Coordinator.
