The Technical Underwriting Manager plays a leading role in maintaining the technical stewardship and underwriting integrity of the Commercial portfolio and is seen as a technical underwriting Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Commercial Underwriting team. This role oversees the training, onboarding and development of the Commercial underwriting teams’ technical underwriting knowledge and expertise, including determination of current and future training needs, content development, delivering training, conducting feedback surveys, sharing results, and implementing mentorships in partnership with the Learning and Development center of expertise.

The Technical Underwriting Manager is responsible for the management of a team of Underwriting Specialists that manage the Commercial underwriting referral and authority processes to ensure Commercial Underwriters work within their designated authority and guidelines.

**What will you do?**
- Manage and oversee the underwriting referral process and ensure service level agreements are maintained.
- Provide advice on technical underwriting questions. Leading and coaching specialists on how to best provide underwriters with support.
- Provide guidance on developing business cases for management or head office approval.
- Manage fraud referrals from the Claims SIU team and take underwriting action when required
- Oversee the Technical File Review (TFR) function, identifying trends and areas to focus reviews, Commercial Program reviews, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Work in conjunction with the Director Underwriting Excellence to maintain the Commercial Underwriting Guidelines.
- Manage day to day operations of the team while fostering a solution-oriented culture. Day to day items include conducting regular 1 on 1’s with direct reports, scheduling, recruitment, coaching, adherence to service levels, work distribution, underwriting referrals, accommodation decisions and workflow management.
- Provide Commercial Program and MGA Agreement and administration management. Ensure consistent approach in managing agreements, language, compliance and ensuring Technical Underwriting oversight is provided to ensure profitability and compliance.
**What will you need to succeed?**
- Minimum 10 years Commercial Underwriting experience.
- Minimum education: Secondary school, community college diploma or an undergrad degree. Insurance background and CIP preferred.
- At least 3 years of Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring individuals.
