We currently have an amazing opportunity for an Underwriting Specialist within our Underwriting and Loss Control Programs Department. Within this exciting position, you will be empowered to mitigate risk through the analysis, development and submission of underwriting best practices and executing internal underwriting initiatives. You will collaborate with internal departments and our membership to provide underwriting best practice solutions to support the mutual community succeed.
**The Role**:
The Underwriting Specialist is responsible for providing underwriting solutions internally and to membership. You will provide technical expertise, guidance, support, mentoring and training for all lines of business to internal staff, member companies, and partners. You will analyze and assess information, monitor the external environment, identify trends, and develop underwriting best practices, guidelines, product, risk selection, and rating to support membership underwriting strategies and foster long-term profitability.
- Assess reinsurance underwriting audit findings, create actionable plans and deliver underwriting best practice solutions to improve reinsurance profitability.
- Design, develop, and recommend best practice underwriting guidelines and resources.
- Prepare and deliver education and training sessions.
- Identify and analyze portfolio performance by evaluating exposures written and loss experience as part of portfolio management.
- Assist in the delivery of the commercial strategic framework, portfolio management, risk selection, and rating consultations
- Support implementation and maintenance of underwriting programs provided through third party vendors.
- Utilize project, change, and time management processes, and follow procedures and plans to deliver services within deadline and/or operational service standards,
**Success Factors**:
- Extensive technical knowledge having 7 to 10 years experience, preferably in property and casualty underwriting lines of business.
- A post-secondary education is required, preferably in business or a related discipline.
- Completion or working towards a professional designation such as the CIP/FCIP.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative in an unstructured environment, exercise independent judgement, function with mínimal supervision, and influence positive change
- Strong ability to develop positive working relationships with peers, leaders and member company contacts.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands and projects.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail; high proficiency in business writingand communication.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with business intelligence software and reports.
- Creative and innovative contributing to excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrates a complement of product, pricing, and underwriting knowledge in decision making.
