**NATIVE COUNCIL OF NOVA SCOTIA** **Housing First Navigator** A Native Advocacy Representative Organization representing, promoting, and advancing the self-governing institutions and services of the off-reserve Aboriginal/Mi'kmaq of Nova Scotia, "Going Forward To A Better Future." To further the objective of improving the social, cultural, educational and employment situation of the rural, urban, off-reserve Aboriginal Peoples of Nova Scotia. **POSITION TITLE: Housing First Navigator** **LOCATION: Native Council of Nova Scotia** **Dartmouth Regional Office - 260 Wise Road, Dartmouth** **EMPLOYMENT ROLE: To provide a flexible Indigenous geared service that improves the self - sufficiency of homeless Indigenous individuals and families and those at** **Imminent risk of homelessness through individualized services.** **Position Scope**: Through community partnership, programs, and services, as well as, established NCNS programs and services, it is expected that the Indigenous HF Navigator will work in collaboration to utilize and provide supports to Indigenous clients of the NCNS Housing First Program. It will be necessary to understand that collaborative service delivery is required to ensure that Indigenous clients receive the supports they need at the right moment and by the appropriate service. It will also be necessary that all collaborating partners work together as the support team for the Indigenous client to best service the need of the client and their immediate family. **Knowledge & Skills Required**: - Related work experience/education in the field of supportive services & activities - Knowledge of housing support systems within the HRM. - Established relationships within the community with groups, both private and public, including landlord associations to identify housing units. - Possess a strong desire to help others, patience and understanding will be a highly valued characteristic. - Ability to Speak and understand Mi’kmaq language, familiarity with culture would be considered an asset. - Knowledge of the rural, urban and off-reserve Indigenous population and issues - Above average communication skills, possess a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to manage time effectively. - Decision making abilities and demonstrated leadership skills. - Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. - Must be able to provide a recent criminal record check and child abuse registry check. - Willing to work within a team with strong team orientated approaches Salary Range: Negotiable Working Hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Holiday, vacations, and employment benefits as per office Policy & Procedure of the NCNS
