This role is structured as a President succession track. The COO will work alongside current leadership to deeply understand the business and lead operations with increasing autonomy. Upon successful performance and strategic alignment, the COO is expected to assume the role of President within 24-36 months.
**Phase 1**: _**COO - Key Responsibilities**_
- **Operational Leadership**_
- Oversee daily operations including field crews, scheduling, equipment, customer service, and administration.
- Streamline systems and processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost control.
- Adapt and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety programs, and compliance protocols.
- Manage vendor relationships, fleet/equipment, and materials supply.
- **People & Culture**_
- Lead, train, and mentor management and field supervisors.
- Improve workforce planning, training, and seasonal labor retention.
- Build a culture of accountability, clear communication, and high performance.
Financial & Performance Oversight
- Support budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Identify and implement cost-saving and performance-boosting initiatives.
- Monitor and report on key operational metrics such as profitability, job completion times, and crew utilization.
- **Collaboration & Growth**_
- Partner with ownership on expansion planning, service line innovation, and scalability.
- Lay groundwork for a smooth leadership transition and company-wide growth.
Phase 2: Transition to President
- Lead strategic direction, company vision, and annual planning initiatives.
- Represent the company externally with clients, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Assume full P&L ownership and manage senior leadership across all departments.
- Report to ownership/board with updates on company performance and growth initiatives.
- Drive geographic and service line expansion, branding, and innovation.
**Qualifications**
- **Required**:_
- 7+ years in operations leadership roles (e.g., GM, VP Ops, COO), preferably in service-based or field industries such as landscaping, construction, or trades.
- Experience managing multi-team operations, including seasonal or variable workforce dynamics.
- Strong use of and continual adaptability with latest technologies.
- Proven team builder and operational optimizer.
- Strong financial literacy and experience with budgets, forecasts, and P&L management.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong communication and decision-making skills.
- **Preferred**_:
- Experience scaling or restructuring a regional service business.
- Familiarity with Alberta labor, safety, and operational regulations.
- Proficiency with operations software (CRM, GPS dispatching, etc.).
- Comfortable with digital transformation and workflow automation.
Performance Objectives (First 12-18 Months)
- Improve operational efficiency and job profitability.
- Standardize processes across all departments and teams.
- Increase crew retention and seasonal rehiring rates.
- Build trust and alignment with staff and ownership.

Pay: $70,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
