**Summary of Duties**
Reporting to the Director, Planning and Development, the senior level Manager, Subdivisions and Development Inspections is responsible for the collaborative leadership, management and operational administration of a multidisciplinary team. Fostering a consistent corporate approach for the creation of new neighbourhoods, the Manager, Subdivision and Development Inspections works to ensure standards for growth are in accordance with The London Plan, the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, design standards, applicable by-laws and are in alignment with Council’s Strategic Plan.

**Work Performed**
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives for Planning and Development to meet Council’s Strategic Plan. Accountable for the effective delivery and the business responsibilities of the unit.
- Provide leadership for the planning, management, and administration for the Subdivisions and Development Inspections team; recommend, develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive policies, programs, procedures and protocols that inform and support City services.
- Provide updates and information to the Director, Planning and Development on priorities with responsibility to operationalize identified goals and strategies.
- Provide professional opinion, and information to the Senior Leadership team, Director, Planning and Development, various Service Areas and Divisions within the Corporation on policies, programs, and services as required.
- Contribute to the identification and development of internal controls in the form of policies, procedures, practices in relation to the general and specific risks of the Corporation; ensure internal controls are implemented, monitored and reported on within the unit.
- Manage diverse projects related to the scope of the subdivisions and development inspections unit ensuring the highest standards of expertise and professionalism.
- Manage the conducting of research, benchmarking and/or studies relating to a wide variety of land use planning matters and servicing standards to incorporate appropriate enhancements to design standards for developments.
- Encourage and support employee participation and commitment to divisional and organizational objectives. Actively mentor, provide development opportunities and build team performance with direct reports.
- Manage the Subdivisions and Development Inspection team including hiring, coaching, administration and performance aspects of reporting staff. Respond to sensitive and confidential human resource issues as required.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- University degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
- A professional designation such as Registered Professional Planner (RPP) through the Ontario Professional Planners Institute or a Professional Engineering Licence in the Province of Ontario in a municipal related discipline.
- Demonstrated successful experience in a leadership role supervising employees.
- Seven to 10 years of progressive experience in the field of urban planning and municipal development.

- Demonstrated successful experience in a people leadership role; positive and proactive leadership capabilities, adept at leading a group of employees, contracted services and consultants; demonstrated commitment to developing high performance teams.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire the people they lead through productive and honest dialogue, with personal integrity and actions.
- Demonstrated ability to advance the interests of the corporation through effective negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to be a trusted advisor and/or advocate in sensitive and/or emotionally charged situations.
- Demonstrated perseverance and resilience in addressing challenges and emergent issues.
- Proven commitment to the safety of employees with knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
- Ability to provide a high level of attention to detail, make sense of data and solve problems.
- Ability to understand the importance of service delivery; develop and implement initiatives that support the area’s customers in a timely and effective way.
- Ability to skillfully communicate to a wide and varied audience and effectively influence outcomes; Political acumen to identify and manage issues.
- Proven ability to establish purposeful relationships and work effectively within all levels of the corporation, with the business community and the general public.
- Focused analytical and strategic thinking and issue resolution skills, combined with a commitment to innovation and collaboration.

$110,205 to $144,589
