**Deputy Fire Chief / Emergency Coordinator**:
**Full-time Contract**

The District of Kent is seeking a dynamic leader with outstanding work ethic and a safety conscience attitude to join the District’s Management Team as the Deputy Fire Chief / Emergency Coordinator. This full-time contract position serves the District of Kent, Village of Harrison Hot Springs, and Seabird Island Band. The position was established by the participating parties in May 2013 in recognition of the benefits and efficiencies in sharing this resource.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the successful applicant will support the department’s mission and vision for providing community protection. We are seeking a strategic thinker who has proven problem-solving abilities; possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal/negotiation skills; and understands change management.

With a demonstrated background in building teamwork and cohesion with all levels of emergency management, you will instill a unified and prepared response capability, and manage appropriate budgets as required. Additionally, in the absence of the Fire Chief you will assume all administrative responsibilities of fire department operations.

This position also achieves the role of the Emergency Coordinator for the District of Kent, Village of Harrison Hot Springs, and Seabird Island Band. Further, a portion of time is also allocated to overseeing the operation of the Seabird Island Band’s Fire Department.
- National Fire Protection Association training (including NFPA 1001, 1006, 1021, and 1041) and certification as a Fire Officer.
- A certificate, diploma or degree in Emergency Management (or the equivalent in education, training, and experience).
- Five (5) years of progressive experience as a Fire Department Officer in a leadership role.
- Thorough working knowledge of firefighting and fire prevention methods, including maintenance, use, and limitations of all apparatus and equipment.
- Proven capabilities in Emergency Management, including skills, training, and experience pertaining to: Incident Command Systems, emergency planning, emergency communications (including amateur radio), and volunteer management.
- Certified as an Advanced Driving Instructor.
- Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake endorsement.
- Qualified and able to become a member in good standing with the professional associations related to the role.
