Seasonal Basketball Coach - Night Hoops Vancouver/Burnaby

Are you passionate about community, mentorship, and using basketball to make a positive impact? Night Hoops is seeking a dedicated and engaging Seasonal Basketball Coach to join our team.

Night Hoops is a foundational recreational program focused on providing at-risk youth with a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. Night Hoops is not an elite or high-performance program. Our goal is to use basketball as a vehicle for building friendships, developing essential life skills, and fostering a sense of belonging.

Key Responsibilities

As a Night Hoops Coach, your primary role is to act as a mentor and leader, fostering holistic development alongside athletic skills.

  • Practice Planning & Execution: Plan and conduct engaging practices centred on fundamental skill development, teamwork, and basic game strategy for beginner and intermediate players.
  • Mentorship & Life Skills: Facilitate an environment where social-emotional learning and life lessons/skills are explored to help players expand their knowledge and navigate challenges.
  • Game Management: Create and implement simple game plans and strategies to maximize team performance during recreational competitions.
  • Team Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive, and welcoming team culture that actively promotes sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork among all participants.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Communicate effectively with players, staff, and collaborators regarding team updates, expectations, and program goals; coordinate team activities and schedules with other staff members.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Solid working knowledge of basketball rules, basic techniques, and gameplay fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and educate players across beginner and intermediate skill levels.
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly convey instructions, provide constructive feedback, and engage constructively with youth.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills to inspire players and build self-confidence.
  • Effective organizational skills for planning and coordinating practices, games, and team activities.
  • A genuine passion for community work and providing safe recreational opportunities for at-risk youth.
