The Community Recreation Coordinator is a highly visible role within the Township responsible for the development and delivery of community events and programs within the Recreation department while creating a collaborative network of community partners, such as service clubs, sports associations, schools, volunteers and other stakeholders. With a strong customer service focus, the Coordinator provides proactive, high quality leadership in the implementation and management of the Recreation Master Plan, while ensuring alignment with the Municipal Cultural Plan and other related resources.
**Core Responsibilities**:
- In consultation with Senior Management, lead the implementation of the Recreation Master Plan, driving recommendations, initiatives and change management within a service delivery framework;
- Act as a liaison between the Township and community partners that provide recreation and leisure services to assist with the identification and realization of new opportunities, business case development and assist community partners navigate internal processes, procedures and policies to achieve best result possible;
- Seek to enhance and support current community events, expand identified activities and programs and assess the viability of offering new programs, initiatives and community-wide events;
- Promote recreation, leisure and cultural opportunities within Wellington North through communications and marketing, including the use of local spaces and places;
- Develop outreach and hold regular forums with community partners and the public to promote, communicate and discuss recreational service delivery and community needs;
- Facilitate volunteer development opportunities within the community and the development of a volunteer recognition and awards program;
- Collaborate with staff to maintain and renew the Township’s recreation, parks and culture services calendar, database and other materials;
- Assist in the formulation of policies, guidelines, evaluation processes, goals, and objectives for programs and other areas as assigned;
- Periodically assess and work with leadership to strategize better utilization of parkland fees and development charges within the recreation department;
- Guide municipal involvement and fundraising requirements for community-initiated projects
- Prepare and deliver reports and presentations that provide sound recommendations and strategies to support Council decision making;
- Proactively pursues alternative sources of funding opportunities;
- Contributes to the annual operating and capital budget process;
- Manage, direct and mentor all summer programs, including, seasonal pool staff and day camp staff, while modelling and endorsing a culture of safe work practices;
- Partner with Human Resources and Director of Operations regarding people related issues and initiatives to meet current and future departmental and organizational objectives;
- Available during hours of operation with the ability to adjust working schedule to business needs; availability includes night and weekend hours of operation to meet with staff and Council, facility users, committees, volunteers, and stakeholders and be present for key events;
- Undertakes special projects and performs all other related duties as assigned.
- 3-5 years’ of experience in recreation program development and delivery and recreation support services (facility rentals, seasonal scheduling and marketing responsibilities).
- Post-secondary diploma in Recreation, Leisure, Marketing, Facility Management or related discipline.
- Creative, strategic planner to support a growing community with experience leading staff, committees and community groups.
- High level of proficiency with computer programs including, CLASS or a related recreation management software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint), website, social media platforms and experience implementing online solutions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G and restriction free drivers’ license to carry out the duties of the job.
- Understanding of the dynamics of volunteer organizations, service clubs and committees.
- Ability to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with various stakeholders demonstrated through the ability to facilitate, network, lead, analyze, and resolve issues in a professional manner.
- Ability to develop, interpret and present research, statistical reports and business plans to committees, Council and the community providing strategic recommendations for action when applicable.
- Excellent problem solving, negotiation and mediation skills in order to build consensus.
- Strong time management and public speaking skills.
