Day Camp Site Leader

The Day Camp Site Leader is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core programs and experiences for children. They will be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants and will provide high quality indoor/outdoor educational and recreational experiences.
Core Responsibilities:
- Supports the Community Recreation Coordinator in providing ongoing training, both internally and with outside agencies
- Ensures that all staff are trained in all policies and procedures, including emergency procedures.
- Ensures that all staff are trained in government mandated training including: WHMIS, Health & Safety, and Accessibility.
- Supports the Community Recreation Coordinator with staff documentation
- Ensure the safety of campers, instructors, and volunteers always.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Supervise and provide guidance to day camp assistant site leaders, instructors and volunteers.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must possess one or more of the following qualifications related to the position:
- A diploma from a Recreational Leadership Program, a diploma from a Child and Youth Worker Program, a diploma in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor of Education
- A minimum of two years previous experience working with children in a supervised group setting and/or recreational program
- Supervisory and administrative experience
- HIGH FIVE certification with training in Principles of Healthy Child Development an asset
- Camps on TRACKS training is an asset
- Standard First Aid & CPR B or C
- Food Handler Certificate
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to prioritize and work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
- Ability to exercise initiative, tact and diplomacy
- Excellent organizational, leadership and staff motivational skills
- Excellent people skills and a friendly, responsible, service-oriented attitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Valid Drivers License
