The salary range for this position is: Recruitment range: $79,376- $87,518 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. Performance range: $103,243 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. Job Summary Campus Security Services is a department within the Vice President Finance and Operations portfolio that provides security, campus safety, emergency planning, parking, and motor pool services to the campus community at the University of Victoria. In providing these services Campus Security contributes to creating a safe, secure, and welcoming campus for all and to the overall mission of the University by providing exceptional customer service in all aspects of the operation. The critical nature of these services are provided 24/7/365. Under the supervision of the Personal Safety Manager (PSM), the Manager, Campus Safety and Risk Prevention is responsible for proactive Violence Risk assessment, initial intake and response planning for emerging trends and incidents occurring within the campus community. Prepares clear and compelling presentations and materials communicating key insights and trends to the campus community. The Manager, Campus Safety and Risk Prevention establishes analysis and metrics to identify and plan for safety and security of activities within the campus community. The incumbent deals with highly sensitive and confidential matters that are often emotionally and politically charged and works in collaboration with other departments to initiate investigation and follow up on complex matters involving members of the campus community. In collaboration with partners from the campus community and leaders within Campus Security develops strategies to engage diverse experiences with a trauma informed approach, ensuring that approaches to violence risk assessment and prevention are inclusive, equitable, and supportive of overall community safety. As needed, participates in an on-call capacity due to the 24/7/365 nature of the operation. This may include being reachable by telephone or in some instances, attending campus to resolve an issue. Job Requirements This position requires education, training and at least 2 years of experience in an area related to it such as violence risk assessment, psychology, criminal justice, or social science. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment. Experience working in the Post-Secondary Education environment, or with a large public institution, would be an asset. Ability to conduct Violence Risk assessment and investigations, handle confidential and sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy, and compassion, ensuring discretion and professionalism throughout the process. Demonstrated administrative, records management, and organizational skills. Analysis and investigative information gathering, ability to synthesize data and metrics for reports Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to collaborate successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels of the university community. Ability to adapt to dynamic work environments and manage multiple tasks independently. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development. Understanding of principles of Critical Incident Stress Management. Must have the ability to maintain a Security Officer level security clearance. Must have the ability to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check. Must hold a valid BC driver’s license. Ability to gain the following knowledge, skills, and abilities within the first 6 months in the role: Proficiency with social media platforms and best practices. Build and maintain positive working relationships across campus. Use of analytic and investigative tools. Foundational and Advanced violence risk assessment and management training. Advanced Open-Source Intelligence Training. Knowledge and awareness of complex issues on campus and emerging trends in higher education, and how those issues may affect campus safety activities and programming. First Aid, CPR.
