The OpportunityJob classification: A5904 Administrative Assistant IISalary range: $45, - $50, Placement within the range is typically based upon a review of skills, experience, and internal equity. Hours per week: Paid leave: 3 weeks vacation per yearPosition End Date: June 30, 2027Deadline to apply: 4:00PM, February 2, 2026 The Indigenous Student Services & Wellness Coordinator is a key member of Natoysopoyiis, SAIT’s Indigenous Student Support Centre, and serves as the first point of contact for students, staff, and community members. Positioned at the front desk, this role is the welcoming face of Natoysopoyiis and plays a critical part in creating an inclusive, supportive, and culturally respectful environment. Reporting to the Manager of Natoysopoyiis, the Coordinator provides essential administrative support while actively contributing to SAIT’s Strategic Plan priorities of student success, equity, and community engagement. This position ensures smooth day-to-day operations, manages inquiries, and coordinates events, workshops, and cultural activities that promote Indigenous student wellness and success. By integrating a holistic approach to well-being, addressing spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health, the Coordinator helps Indigenous learners access resources, build community, and thrive academically and personally. As a front-facing member of the team, this role is critical to our success. It bridges administrative excellence with student-centered service, ensuring that every interaction reflects SAIT’s commitment to reconciliation, accessibility, and fostering a sense of belonging for Indigenous studentsHow you'll contributeFront Desk Services and Communications:Serve as the first point of contact for students, staff, and community members visiting Natoysopoyiis.Provide information on Indigenous student resources, services, supports, and programming.Ensure a welcoming, respectful, and student‑centered environment at all times.Develop and distribute the Indigenous Student Newsletter, sharing programming details, cultural events, employment opportunities, and financial aid information.Maintain consistent, timely communication of relevant opportunities and updates for Indigenous learners.Student Wellness, Resources, and Referrals: Identify student needs and refer learners to appropriate academic, social, or wellness supports.Prepare private and secure spaces for counseling and host scheduled mental health supports.Oversee food security supports including the student pantry and emergency grocery cards.Manage distribution of technology resources (, laptops), coordinating with IT to ensure student access and equipment functionality.Cultural Programming, Events, and Community Support: Assist in planning and hosting programs, workshops, and cultural activities that enhance wellness, belonging, and academic success.Coordinate feasts, luncheons, and community-building events grounded in Indigenous cultural practices.Provide cultural support to students through mentorship, guidance, and the creation of inclusive cultural spaces.Traditional Medicines, Protocols, and Elder Engagement: Maintain and replenish traditional medicines and smudge supplies to uphold culturally grounded wellness practices.Organize visits and engagements with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, ensuring cultural protocols, relationship care, and respectful hosting.Prepare honorariums, gifting, and other culturally appropriate offerings in alignment with Indigenous traditions.Operational Coordination and Student Support Logistics: Ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations of Natoysopoyiis, including scheduling, organization, and resource management.Maintain tracking systems for resources, supplies, appointments, and student service needs.Support both routine and emergent operational tasks to ensure efficient, accessible, and culturally informed services.What you bringDiploma in Social Sciences, Social Work, Humanities, or a related field. 3 years of experience working with Indigenous peoples, preferably in an educational setting.Equivalent work experience and community involvement will be considered in place of formal education requirements.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.Crisis management skills are considered an asset.Public speaking and presentation skills would be an asset.Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate commitment to task completion.Demonstrate flexibility, patience, empathy, and adaptability in a dynamic environment. Strong teamwork skills, including open and respectful communication.We thank all applicants for their interest in joining our team We know being ghosted is the worst, so be assured – you’ll hear from us either way.
