Location: VancouverEmployment Type: Regular Full TimeWorkplace Type: Hybrid Role OverviewReporting to Manager Business Planning, the Contract Specialist’s primary responsibility will serve as a resource to execute full lifecycle Contracts Management activities for Teck Legacy Properties and to support the ongoing development of functional processes, templates and tools. The Contracts Specialist is responsible for managing the planning, set up and execution of the complete contracting lifecycle: developing and recommending contract strategies (including the identification of compensation and market approach models), planning and executing Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, evaluating proposals and negotiating agreements, making recommendations for award, conforming contracts for execution, administering (including assessment of payment and commercial claims), and closing contracts. This role requires close collaboration with the site managers, project managers, operation and maintenance teams, technical teams and corporate shared service groups (legal, risk, customs and trade compliance, etc.). The Contract Specialist will work closely with internal teams, legal, risk, external stakeholders and various legacy team members to ensure Teck’s contracts effectively define and manage the legal, commercial, financial and technical obligations and objectives of the parties involved so as to protect and advance Teck’s interests. Develop your career with one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and join our team Key Responsibilities Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and proceduresMaintains and demonstrates Teck’s commitment to safety and environmental protection as a core valueDevelops and recommends contract strategies and contract plans to site managers, project managers, maintenance teams and technical teams ensuring contract strategies consider appropriate legal, commercial, and technical approach to scope packaging, bidding, awarding, managing, and closing contractsManages the full request for proposal (RFP) process including planning, preparing, and managing the workflowAdministers agreements (post-award) including evaluating pre-mobilization deliverables, reconciling invoices, negotiating / resolving disputes, negotiating changes, implementing change management procedures, and closing contractsProactively provides guidance to site managers, project managers, maintenance teams, and technical teams in regards to contract management strategies, options, and considerations throughout all stages of contracts lifecyclesReferences legal and commercial terms and relies on those terms to manage contractors, advise site managers, project managers, maintenance teams, technical teams, and to resolve disputes / claimsImplements effective change management to ensure contract modifications are properly documented and approvedEnsures contracts are closed out appropriately and in accordance with applicable legislation and Legacy properties requirementsOn a project, oversees, monitors and reports on the EPCM or other Service Providers and contractors in its execution of full contracting lifecycle on behalf of TeckDevelops for Management approval contracts management policies, procedures, and templates for the Legacy groupProactively resolves issues that arise between contractors and site and project teams in a professional mannerPrepares ad hoc contract management reports and performs other job-related duties as the need arisesAdhere to all corporate policies, code of ethics and codes of conductQualifications Post secondary education from a recognized institution is required5+years of experience in an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) or an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) company or owners operation or project team and managing and executing contract lifecycle activitiesStrong understanding of operations and project lifecycles, operations and project procedures, operations and project roles and responsibilitiesStrong understanding and experience with various contract types, models, strategiesStrong understanding of various legal and commercial terms and ability to rely on those termsStrong negotiation and dispute resolution skillsStrong understanding and experience in multiple phases of project executionAbility to raise awareness of contract activities which have an impact to an operation or projectKnowledge of and experience working in the industrial engineering and construction industryStrong critical and conceptual thinking skills.Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet ExplorerLeadership Competencies Targets and achieves resultsSets challenging and ambitious goalsPrioritizes tasksOvercomes obstaclesAccepts accountabilitySets team standards and responsibilitiesDemonstrates leadership/motivation Why TeckAt Teck, your work matters — to the world, to our communities and to your future.As a leading Canadian resource company, we focus on responsibly providing the metals essential for global development and the energy transition while caring for the people, communities and land that we love.
