P&WC is the world’s most diversified aircraft gas turbine engine designer and manufacturer. Inside the System Safety & Reliability team, you will perform safety analysis in support of design, development and certification of our engines, including turboprop, turboshaft, turbofan and APU installations. In support of our fleet of more than 58,000 engines in service, you will also perform risk assessment activities to help define corrective action plans. You will help us continuously advance our world-class System Safety & Reliability Engineering discipline.

What your day to day will look like

As part of our Engineering team, you will perform safety analysis based on ARP 4761 methodology, including FMEA, FHA, and CMA. You will prepare certification reports and interact with Transport Canada and foreign certification Authorities. In addition to engine-level activities, you will also support aircraft manufacturers in engine installation and integration activities.

As part of our Safety Management System (SMS) process, you will perform Risk Assessment analysis based on CAAM/AC39-8 methodology. You will guide development of aircraft fleet management strategies.

You will have leadership for one or more aspects of our System Safety discipline, such as Time-Limited Dispatch (TLD), Human Factors or impact of Cybersecurity, and will advance our capabilities to meet current and emerging challenges.

Areas of Expertise:
  • System safety and reliability analysis for power plants and interfaces with aircrafts
  • Knowledge of engine turbomachinery and controls, aircraft powerplant systems (propeller, thrust reverser)
  • Includes all aspects related to mechanical systems (fuel, oil, transmission) and control (hydromechanical, electronic, software)
  • Responsible for entire projects with significant scope and complexity through the value stream from preliminary requirements through to engine and aircraft certification and field life cycle management
  • Contributes to the team by applying their advanced knowledge to lead and develop disciplines such as fire safety, FMEA, or fleet risk management
  • Develops and coaches others
  • Has expert knowledge that extends across multiple design disciplines
Key responsibilities:
  • Work with airframers, airworthiness authorities and PWC teams to define safety requirements and flow down; prepare PSSA and Safety Plan
  • Conduct systems safety analysis and participate in IPT's in support of engine design activities, leading FMEA
  • Validate safety objective are met through FHA, prepare the SSA for engine certification and support aircraft-level certification activities
  • Conduct technical analysis, develop solutions to problems encountered during development and in-service
  • Perform risk assessments in support of fleet management strategies for continued airworthiness
  • Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in discipline leadership, with solid teamwork, troubleshooting, and systems thinking capability
  • Provide discipline leadership, including the development of new processes and analytical tools
The tools you need to be successful:
  • Bachelors degree with 6 to 10 years of experience
  • Masters degree with 4 to 7 years of experience
  • Field of study: Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
