About The Workplace

The Senior Legal Counsel role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.

This is a full-time 18-month contract position.

A Typical Day Will Involve

  • Partnering with the business to provide legal advice, reduce risk and enable business operations.
  • Having extensive subject matter expertise knowledge and providing practical legal advice.
  • Maintaining robust knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, best practice, and industry standards to provide internal guidance and ensure compliance.
  • Cultivating a deep understanding of Vancity’s business needs and providing proactive, solution-oriented advice.
  • Researching, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing various types of legal agreements.
  • Representation for litigation proceedings
  • Assisting the business in proactively identifying legal issues and mitigating against risk.
  • Providing timely, responsive, and proactive legal advice enabling Vancity to make business decisions with a clear and well-informed understanding of any related legal risks and impacts at both the business unit and enterprise level.
  • Identifying opportunities to continuously improve the service delivery model for legal services that is aligned to business and strategic goals.
  • Managing legal projects, including those related to strategic initiatives and business goals.
  • Providing support to other lawyers on the team including Directors, Legal and Chief Legal Officer.

You Have

  • Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience. Member in good standing of Law Society of British Columbia
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Assets would include experience with:
    • Commercial law;
    • Contracts;
    • Financial services industry, including lending and/or treasury;
    • Labour and employment and litigation
    • Real estate/leasing;
    • Insurance; and/or Governance

The salary range for the role is $121,000 to $181.200 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($151,1000). The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.
