What you will be doing:
The ohpikîhakan Foster Care program at The Family Centre has a unique approach to foster care that emphasizes the holistic needs of children and youth, including having a strong emphasis on cultural and relational connection, as well as reunification with family and community. In this model, caregivers receive extensive initial and ongoing training, are supported by therapeutic supervisors, and are an integral part of the support circle surrounding children, youth, and their families.
Reporting to the Manager, Foster Care, the Training Specialist, Foster Care supports the program by developing training modules, providing initial individual and group training for new caregivers, and facilitating ongoing caregiver training. The role requires inclusivity and celebration of diverse cultures and backgrounds, the ability to work independently and within a team, and excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Support foster caregivers to develop both administrative and practice skills
- Develop, update, and facilitate trainings
- Maintain tracking related to the training processes
- Support foster caregivers to complete required training prior to licensing
- Build a thriving, healthy, supportive, and positive working environment and culture
What you will bring to the role:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree in a Human Services related field or equivalent education
- 5 years of related professional experience
- Knowledge of Foster Care and Children and Family Services (an asset)
- Experience in training, developing, and supporting new staff
- Proficiency in program development, adult learning, and facilitation
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and individuals who have experienced trauma
- Strong communication skills
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft and Google platforms
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Background Check Process & Requirements:
As part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers. Additionally, the following requirements must be met:
- Police Information Check - Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months
- Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Reliable vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license

- $59,238 to $79,221 annually
