**What you will be doing**:
The ohpikîhakan Foster Care program at The Family Centre has a unique approach to foster care that emphasizes the holistic needs of children and youth, including having a strong emphasis on cultural and relational connection, as well as reunification with family and community. In this model, caregivers receive extensive initial and ongoing training, are supported by therapeutic supervisors, and are an integral part of the support circle surrounding children, youth, and their families.
Reporting to the Program Manager, Family Support Services, the ohpikîhakan Foster Care Recruiter is responsible for discovering and equipping prospective foster caregivers to support marginalized children and youth aged 0-17 who are involved with Children and Family Services. This includes a significant proportion of Urban Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals, as well as refugees, first-generation Canadians, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals who have experienced trauma and multigenerational abuse and neglect. Your reliability, flexibility, excellent organizational skills, and understanding of the meanings and values embedded in ceremony, circle processes, and relational accountability will enhance your effectiveness in this role. Additionally, your commitment to allyship with equity-seeking communities will be highly valued.
- Identify prospective therapeutic foster caregivers in the Edmonton region.
- Target recruitment efforts to include Indigenous caregivers, 2SLGBTQ+ caregivers, and other diverse groups.
- Participate in ceremonies and follow protocols when engaging with Indigenous nations, bands, and prospective caregivers.
- Build relationships with ethno-cultural communities, communities of gender and sexual diversity, and other equity-seeking groups.
- Support potential caregivers for children and youth involved with Children and Family Services in completing initial documentation requirements for the home study.
- Conduct initial evaluations to determine if prospective caregivers are suitable for foster caregiving.
- Work within a flexible schedule that regularly includes evening and weekend hours.
**What you will bring to the role**:
- Demonstrated recruitment, community building, and networking skills
- Proven knowledge and acumen in communications and marketing
- Post-secondary education in Human Services, Human Resources, or Business Administration (asset)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in recruitment or community building
- Experience working with Urban Indigenous families and diverse cultural communities
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with the SAFE HAR (Home Study) process (asset)
**Background Check Process & Requirements**:
- As a part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers
- Police Information Check - Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months)
- Child Intervention Records Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Reliable vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license
