Description

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Learning Technologies Specialist for approximately 24 months.

This position reports to the Associate Director, Learning Technology & Design in the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, within the Learning Technology & Design Team.

This position is responsible for supporting instructors who are using learning technologies at the University of Calgary, as well as resource development and application administration for institutionally supported tools including Brightspace, Zoom, YuJa, and Top Hat.
The primary focus of this position will be to provide support for and expertise in learning technologies to advance the implementation of UCalgary's Ahead of Tomorrow strategic plan and the Office of the Provost's Program Innovation Hub.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Supports university initiatives related to the implementation of learning technologies to enable the development of high quality courses and programs.
  • Conducts advanced workshops and consultation to enable instructors to effectively use and incorporate learning technologies, including Brightspace, Zoom, YuJa, and others.
  • Develops and conducts programming to support instructors who teach in a wide variety of disciplines, with a focus on connecting technology and pedagogy.
  • Facilitates both online and face-to-face workshops.
  • Provides consultation for instructors who are integrating learning technologies, using evidence-based practices.
  • Regularly consults with instructors to document their requirements for learning technologies.
  • Collaborates with instructors to showcase learning technologies innovations.
  • Collaborates on special projects with others across the Taylor Institute and other units across the university.
  • Actively participates in special projects to advance learning technology use and integration across the university.
  • Provides consultation and training to support learning technology projects as they arise.
  • Develops training materials and documentation to support the use of learning technologies for end users.
  • Examines new and emerging learning technologies and applications to support innovation.
  • Evaluates needs and fit of learning technologies to support innovation for face-to-face, online and blended course design, as well as for modularized learning design (i.e. stackable certificates, micro-credentialing).
  • Collaborates with colleagues to understand both current and emerging learning technologies, and to identify opportunities to integrate new technologies to enhance the experiences of teaching and learning at UCalgary.
  • Fosters connections with colleagues across UCalgary and at other institutions to understand current and emerging practices related to the design, implementation, integration, and support of learning technologies in a post-secondary context.
  • Actively participates in, and collaborates to help lead, special projects to advance learning technology use and integration across the University of Calgary.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the Taylor Institute, Information Technologies, and other partners to understand unit and institutional strategic directions and how they relate to learning technologies.
  • Provides leadership to collaboratively implement and evaluate new learning technologies through pilot projects.
  • Resolves specific and unique end-user issues for specified applications (such as Brightspace, Zoom, YuJa, and others).
  • Provides functional and process expertise for campus learning technologies.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and mitigates common user errors and knowledge gaps.
  • Understands and adheres to documented university policies and standards.
  • Provides advice and feedback to the Associate Director, Learning Technologies & Design, regarding the impact of changes to learning technologies based on their knowledge of instructor's needs.
  • Collaborates with Online Learning Environment Lead to provide guidance and mentorship to a team of graduate student Learning Technology Production Coaches, who in turn provide direct functional learning technology support for instructors.
  • Promote a positive culture of teaching and learning excellence in learning technologies.
  • Meets deadlines and maintains a high standard of work produced.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with the Taylor Institute and IT, as well as across units at the university. Promotes opportunities and services offered through the Taylor Institute to clients.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Experience, knowledge, and proficiency in a wide range of online learning technologies such as Brightspace, Zoom, YuJa, and Top Hat.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technologies to support effective teaching and learning practices in a higher education context, using an evidence-based approach.
  • Relevant experience with workshop design, facilitation and presentation.
  • Positive, team-oriented outlook and willingness to collaborate with all colleagues. This is a highly team-oriented role involving interaction with several cooperating departments, and with exposure to all faculties and units across campus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving team and unit goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete project deliverables, with a focus on producing highly effective results that take into account the context of the discipline, course, students and instructors.
  • High degree of flexibility, responsiveness, and professionalism.
  • Sets and/or negotiates priorities and accomplishes assigned tasks within required time to achieve positive results.
  • Ability to express and propose new ideas that add value to the organization.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in consultation with instructors about meaningful implementation and integration of learning technologies to support course design goals.
  • Ability to undertake creative problem solving, innovation, and constructive dialogue with people in various roles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to present ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing work environment. Ability to collaboratively lead projects with manageable risks.
