Title: Specialist, Knowledge Translation
Reports to: Manager, Research Grants, Impact Communication and Evaluation

This is a meaningful role where you can make a difference every day for people living with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). You will have a significant impact by:

  • Translating science into lay-friendly content to educate the community on the impact of our research investments and the current scientific understanding of Crohn’s and Colitis
  • Running education events and managing research content on Crohn’s and Colitis Canada (CCC)’s website
  • Working in partnership with the Marketing and Communications team to plan and execute CCC’s knowledge translation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in health sciences, preferably in IBD, gastrointestinal or immunology research in an academic, government, or corporate research environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with reading and understanding grey and white literature (e.g. PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, etc.)
  • 2 years of experience in developing engaging science communications for a lay audience.
  • Excellent synthesis and writing skills, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with bibliometrics and other research impact measures.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and online search tools, including PubMed, Google Scholar, and grey literature.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to interact with diplomacy and tact with colleagues, the public, and individuals in the scientific community.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative while working under pressure with often changing deadlines.
  • Strong editing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative, create opportunities, and develop effective partnerships.
  • Driven by a need to have a social impact, exhibits close alignment to CCC’s values.
  • French language proficiency a strong asset.
  • Successful completion of a criminal and credit background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review scientific content, interview scientists and summarize key points into lay-friendly language to support the Marketing and Communications Team efforts to create content (e.g. stories, videos clips, etc.)
  • Act as the primary relationship manager with the IBD Research healthcare community to support knowledge translation at Crohn’s and Colitis Canada
  • Develop resources (e.g. grant summaries, research impact briefing notes) for the Development Team to support their fundraising efforts
  • Conduct literature searches, as needed to support CCC’s knowledge translation activities
  • Review scientific progress reports from funded researchers to identify significant achievements and research engagement opportunities.
  • Assist the Manager in identifying potential stories and key research outcomes as well as developing annual knowledge translation plan.
  • Act as the primary contact for research impact inquiries coming from other CCC departments.
  • Engage proactively with various stakeholders (internal and external) to support research communication activities within different internal divisions (e.g., educational decks for staff, briefing notes for the fundraising team).
  • Responsible for annual audit of education content on CCC’s website and updating, if needed, with subject matter experts. Responsible for the annual plan and execution for the primary online education seminars
  • - Gutsy Learning Series.
  • Primarily responsible for managing CCC’s research outcomes platform, Researchfish, currently being piloted, including reviewing data quality.
  • Responsible for developing knowledge translation program plans, processes and tracking milestones against organizational key results
