SSHRC is seeking talented communications professionals passionate about Canadian research and the value it brings to society.Visit our career page at SSHRC to learn more about why you should join our agency.What You Will DoThe Team Lead, Language Services plays a key role in the operational planning and delivery of language services for SSHRC’s various programs, initiatives, and priorities. Responsible for supervising a team of English and French writers, editors, and translators. Responsible for writing, editing, and providing advice and guidance on content development and translation services for publications and products.Upon direction, collaborates in defining strategic and operational priorities and developmental needs of the Language Services team.Directly oversees the work of the language experts (i.e. translators and senior writer-editors).Provides advice and guidance to internal and external translators and editors and manages the translation and editing components of special and large projects.Manages, develops, and applies service and quality standards within the unit using SSHRC style guides and language tools.Provides strategic advice, conceptualizes, directs, and oversees integrated corporate linguistic requirements for optimal effectiveness.Manages and delivers translation services from English into French (and occasionally from French into English), conducts comparative editing services on complex and/or sensitive documents, and provides linguistic, terminological, and lexicographical advice and service to SSHRC.Contributes to the planning and development of the language policies and procedures within the directorate and plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing communications projects.What You Need to SucceedEducationUndergraduate degree in English, French or related area of study from a recognized university, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.Combined experience in writing, editing and translation in an environment serving the public.Experience managing projects in a language services environment.Experience in terminological research.Experience leading a team.KnowledgeKnowledge of sound human resource management.Knowledge of writing and editing techniques and best practices.Knowledge of Government of Canada communications policies, guidelines and procedures.Assets:Knowledge of SSHRC’s mandate, policies and programs.Knowledge of the Canadian research ecosystem and social sciences and humanities research community.Collaborate with partners and stakeholders.Demonstrating organizational skills (organizing and planning work).Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).Identify and analyze client needs.Diplomacy.Negotiating.Equity, Diversity and InclusionWe are committed to inclusive and barrier-free recruitment to create a workforce that reflects the Canadians we serve.
